Review - "Milford Valley Farms Kiev Stuffed Chicken Breast"

A Product Review

My husband and I get home pretty late some nights so we are always on the lookout for foods that are easy to prepare and ready fast. If they are inexpensive and taste good it's a bonus! Milford Valley makes a variety of Stuffed Chicken breasts that fit the bill. The varieties we have found and tried are " Kiev", "Cordon Bleu", and "Broccoli and Cheese". This is a review of the "Kiev" variety.

We bought "Milford Valley Farms Kiev Stuffed Chicken Breasts" when they were on sale for just one dollar each at Hy-Vee. This seemed like a pretty good deal for a quick and easy meal. If you read the (not so) fine print you will see that this is a "stuffed chicken breast with rib meat patty", so it is basically a giant chicken nugget. Each "Milford Valley Farms Kiev Stuffed Chicken Breast" comes in a red package with a picture of the product: a breaded patty "pocket" spilling out a buttery sauce. The description tells us that the "Milford Valley Farms Kiev Stuffed Chicken Breast" is an "uncooked breaded chicken breast with rib meat patty, stuffed with a seasoned butter blend". So this looked and sounded pretty palatable.

"Milford Valley Farms Kiev Stuffed Chicken Breasts" taste good, but not great. The chicken is tender and not as rubbery as a typical nugget, so in that way it exceeded expectations. The breading was bland and didn't add much as far as flavor, but it does add a nice little bit of texture. But the butter spilled out almost entirely and didn't add that much in terms of seasoning. Overall, this was my least favorite variety of "Milford Valley Farms Stuffed Chicken Breasts." (Though I think this is my daughter's favorite.)

The biggest drawback to "Milford Valley Farms Kiev Stuffed Chicken Breasts" is that they are pretty bad for you. Each one has 500 calories and sixty percent of you saturated fat!!! It also has fifteen percent of your cholesterol and thirty nine percent of your sodium. In return you get fifteen percent of your Vitamin A, two percent of your Calcium, two percent of your Iron, twelve percent of your fiber, and nineteen grams of protein. So it's not all bad, but not worth the tradeoff in my opinion. Especially as someone with a bigger appetite will probably have to eat a couple to feel full.

So if you are looking for a quick, easy, inexpensive meal, "Milford Valley Farms Kiev Stuffed Chicken Breasts" fit the bill and they taste pretty good. If you are looking for good nutrition, I'd look elsewhere.
