Review - Millenium Hilton Hotel New York

A Great Hotel in Lower Manhattan

Matthew Steed
I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Millenium Hilton Hotel in New York City. The hotel has all the amenities you would expect from a four star property, including the room rate to match which is why I rarely stay at this hotel when in New York City. However, you can find great deals for this hotel if you look. I've gotten great weekend rates directly from the hotel's website and, during my last stay in June, a rate of $134 a night from Hotwire.com.

The hotel is located in lower Manhattan and is adjacent to the site where the World Trade Center once stood. The hotel stands 59 stories tall and has 569 guest room, most of which overlook the World Trade Center site. While this can seem strange at times, it's interesting to see from above all of the work going on at the World Trade Center site. Because of the hotel's location (across the street from Ground Zero), the hotel suffered extensive damage during the September 11th attacks and was closed for a period after the attacks.

When the hotel reopened, all of the guest rooms and the public spaces were repaired are remodeled and the hotel is now as beautiful as ever. The guest rooms are spacious by New York City standards. Each room includes a 42" plasma screen television, iPod docking station with AM/FM radio, bathroom amenities from Crabtree & Evelyn's La Source line of products.

Amenities in the hotel include the standard lobby bar, restaurant, fitness center, and business center However, what makes this hotel one of my favorite New York City hotels is its indoor heated swimming pool. Located on the fifth floor, the large pool is a great way to unwind after a long day exploring New York City. And the city view outside the floor to ceiling windows make for a magnificent view.

Because the Millenium Hilton is lower Manhattan, many visitors to New York City overlook this hotel in their planning as they want something close to Times Square. However, the Millenium Hilton is a great base for exploring lower Manhattan as it is just four blocks away from Wall Street and within walking distance to Greenwich Village, SoHo, Battery Park, TriBeCa, and the South Street Seaport. And if you want to go uptown to Times Square, Central Park, and the museums such as the MoMa or The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the subway is only steps away from the hotel's main entrance. The A, C, E, J, M, Z, 4,5, 1 & 2 are only one block from the hotel while the R & W are only 3 blocks away.

The Millenium Hilton was designed as a business hotel, but it makes a great place for families to stay while visiting New York City.

The Millenium Hilton Hotel is located at 55 Church Street. You can contact the hotel directly at (212) 693-2001 for reservations but I've found better deals by booking via the hotel's website http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/NYCMLHH-Millenium-Hilton-New-York/index.do or on Hotwire.com

Tip: If you're searching the Internet for more information or rates for this hotel, note that the spelling used by the hotel is Millenium and is different than the US spelling of the word Millennium.
