Review of Miracle-Gro Organic Potting Soil

This is a great choice for those who prefer indoor gardening or pot gardening. If you don't like to make you own potting soil then this is a good option for you, Scotts is a great brand and has had a proven track record for years, so overall this brand can trusted.

The benefits of choosing this product are that it contains fertilizer that will last you for three months. The consistency is amazing. It feels nice and soft yet it is thick enough to hold what it needs to hold. However, it is still light enough to use for planting in containers so that it can drain more easily. Oh and another benefit that is quite obvious is that this potting mix is organic.

There are two cons. One is even thought this is reasonably priced it is more expensive than other planting soils. Also, for some reason they don't give you a full description of what is in the mix. I always like to know what ingredients come in the mix, but I guess they just do not feel it necessary. Well, at least we know that this is a trusted company that has a fresh appearance and you can pretty much find this product around the US.

Organic gardening is the way to go if you can afford it. That is the only thing I see that is a challenge with this product. It really is out of the budget of the typical gardener's wallet. The product is worth the money, but you should know upfront that it is going to cost you more than you planned.
The compost itself has a very fresh smell. The compost is very soft and moist. This is necessary especially if you are to grow herbs. Herbs grow best when they are grown in compost that is soft and allows the water to flow through it easily; another great reason why his compost was made soft and moist and it keeps mildew from growing on it.

If your budget is what is keeping you form buying this product I would recommend that you go on to.About.com site and look up how to make your own organic compost. Yes, it will still be a little more expensive than making compost that is not organic. However, if you do make your own then it will be less expensive than the product being reviewed. Give it a try and see how it works for you!

  • Miracle Grow Organic is not the best potting soil1/8/2011

I have been on the look-out for the best potting soil and have yet to find it. I am not sure why, but I have never had any success with Miracle Grow organic potting soil. I have tried it two seasons in a row. The first season I relied on it for potting up all my vegetables and perennials and had a hard time getting anything to grow. I was concerned that I had somehow done something wrong (even though I have gardened for over 30 years. To confirm my suspicion, last season I purchased Miracle Grow organic potting soil and a couple of others brands and tried them side by side using the exact same conditions, same plants, same watering and fertilizer etc and I can absolutely confirm that I saw very little to no growth and no thrive of any of the seedlings or cuttings in the Miracle Grow compared with a the other soils where I saw 4 to 6 times the growth and a lot healthier. I was astonished. It was greatly disappointing to find that a trusted brand was responsible for my lack of a g

The word 'organic' simply means "carbon-based material of or relating to living matter". That's the generic definition. The true, horticultural definition of 'organic' relative to organic gardening requires review, N(ational)O(rganic) S(tandards) certification and USDA approval - which Scotts does not and will most likely never have. The sheer fact that (as you stated) the product does not list all of its ingredients negates its hopes for ever qualifying as truly "organic". I'm a purist. Yes. But Scotts is simply cashing in on a very lucrative, gullible green market and as a true organic gardener that disgusts me.
