The milk contains calcium to strengthen hair and soothe the scalp. The olive oil is used to moisturize hair, make hair shinier and to repair damage. Omega-3 protein rebuilds, strengthens and protects hair. During the winter months in Chicago, the snow, rain and cold can make hair dry and brittle. And with dryness comes dandruff so sometimes hair has to be washed or moisturized a little more often.
I received a Sofn'free package of GroHealthy® products from M&M Products Company a few weeks ago, and after being satisfied with the Milk Protein & Olive Oil Strengthening Crème, I gave the Leave-In Treatment, Daily Growth Lotion and Really Deep Conditioning Treatment a try.
When we think of hair relaxer, black women usually think of perm. But the real hair relaxer is deep conditioning, which restores all of the damage we've done to our hair and we don't have to do a thing but lay back and enjoy it. After washing my hair with shampoo, I used Sofn'free Really Deep Conditioning Treatment. The conditioner is a little shocking on the scalp because you can immediately feel it tingling. Not enough to burn or be irritable, but it's like gargling with strong mouthwash. You can feel it cleaning your hair immediately.
I try to avoid excessive heat on my hair so instead of sitting under a dryer for 10 to 15 minutes, I put my hair in a shower cap, let the conditioner sit on my hair for the maximum time of 45 minutes and relaxed. When it was time to wash the Really Deep Conditioning Treatment out, I could still feel it. Afterwards, I used the Leave-In Treatment, which helps to mend split ends. It's a soft spray and could easily be combed through my wet hair.
After drying my hair, I noticed how much softer my hair felt than with other conditioners. I usually add hair oil to my head because the heat makes my hair a little stiff, but the hair close to my scalp felt as flexible as it did before I'd washed my hair. However, like many black women who don't air dry their hair, the tips of the hair can become really dry so I used the Sofn'Free Daily Growth Lotion on the ends and around the scalp area to restore some of the moisturizer that the hair dryer took out. The Daily Growth Lotion is also used to resist breakage and to resist dandruff flaking.
So what makes these products worth five stars? It's difficult for someone with thick hair to find conditioners that don't immediately make the hair either too frizzy or too stringy. It's even more difficult for black women to find hair care products that truly do moisturize hair instead of snatching out all of the essential oils in our hair. And for black women who live in cold climate areas during the winter season, like the Windy City, there's a constant battle with moisture, breakage, dandruff and finding worthwhile styling products.
What Sofn'free products have going for them is the mix of all three products-milk, protein and olive oil-give black hair the triple threat it needs to combat these hair care issues all at once.
