Review of Momma's Boy's Pizza in Powell, Tennessee

Gayle Crabtree
Momma's Boy's Pizza in Powell, Tennessee has a salad bar, sandwiches and tasty pizza. Our server said that they have been open for about a year now. The restaurant is in the shopping center with the Dollar General Supermarket. The red sign with black letters is hard to read from the road. Look for the sign to the right of the supermarket and next door to the dentist.

We walked in about 5:30 on a Friday night. The server was taking a phone order but motioned for us to take a seat. It only took him a minute to finish the call and bring menus. He was back in even less time with the iced teas.

Prices and menu
Since the prices aren't listed online I'll try to include most of them here. This is an easy-going family restaurant with reasonable prices. The evening specials were baked spaghetti and lasagna (each $5.99). Also on the list was Chicken Parmesan and C Alfredo (each $6.99). Salad was extra at $2.99.

Momma's Boy's Pizza also has sandwiches, calzones and stronboli. These all seemed to run between $4.99 to $8.99. Dessert pizzas were $9.99 to $13.99. Their appetizer choices included french fries, mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms and a sampler. Prices ranged from $1.99 to $6.99.

Pizza options include a create-your-own or specialty pizzas range from $7.99 for a small cheese pie to $17.99 for a large specialty. With choices like White Spinach, Taco, Philly Steak and Cheese, Basil and Pesto, Fajita and Veggie it was hard to decide what we wanted.

Pizza
Ultimately, we decided to go for the Momma's Supreme on thin crust. It came with pepperoni, beef, sausage, mushrooms, black olives, tomatoes, green and banana peppers. The sauce was red and the cheese was mozzarella. At $14.99 for a medium, Momma's Boy's Pizza prices were about right to us.

Salad bar and appetizer
Hubby and I also ordered the salad bar at $2.99 each. We were going to stop there but the server talked us into Garlic Fried Mushrooms for $4.99. He said that they were too good to pass up. We always plan on taking a box home from any pizza place so we opted to give this a try too.

Our server brought the salad bar plates to us and went to turn the orders in. The salad bar Momma's Boy's Pizza wasn't huge but it was nicely done. Bowls of freshly cut lettuce, egg and other toppings were embedded into what appeared to be fresh ice. Dressings included Italian, Ranch and what looked like French. Everything was neat, tidy and tasted great.

The mushrooms arrived a few minutes later. The delivery driver was back in the store and was the one who brought them out. His opinion echoed the other server. I have to agree with them. The layer of garlic sauce underneath the fried breading gave the mushrooms an interesting flavor. A side of ranch dressing made a good complement.

Other diners
About this time a second family arrived for dinner. They also seemed surprised that the place was empty. When they saw us they asked if the pizza was good. We couldn't answer that but we did tell them about the mushrooms.

Pizza crust
We did make a mistake on the pizza. The flavor was excellent but the crust wasn't my favorite. It was wafer thin, could be rolled up and the toppings kept falling off. This is just the way Hubby likes it.

Momma's Boy's Pizza also has hand tossed crust. From the counter, you can see the guys tossing the dough in the air. I saw them do it when we paid our bill.

Since the other family asked us about the pizza I went over to ask them about theirs. They said they were very pleased with the hand tossed cheese pizza. This confirmed my suspicions on the crust. Hand tossed is my favorite. I'll overrule Hubby and order that next time.

Total cost and rating
Our final bill with tax and drinks came to $31.84.
My restaurant rating: 4 Stars
