Review of Morritt's Grand and Tortuga Club Timeshare and Resort in Grand Cayman

Kristen May
Anybody who is looking for a luxurious and relaxing Carribean vacation full of sun, sand and beautiful beaches should look no further than Morritt's Tortuga Club and Morritt's Grand Resort in Grand Cayman. These twin resorts on the same property share a set of amenities that are sure to leave any guest feeling pampered and relaxed at the end of the week.

Morritt's Grand and Tortuga Club Grand Cayman: Location

Although many people think of Grand Cayman as a tourist-packed cruise destination, the Morritt's resorts are way on the other side of the island, getting their guests away from the busyness of Georgetown and Seven Mile Beach. Morritt's Grand Resort and Morritt's Tortuga Club are located on the northeast end of Grand Cayman, about a 40 minute drive from Owen Roberts International Airport.

Although many guests choose to rent cars to get themselves to the resort and allow for day trips to Georgetown and to other beaches on the island, it is also possible to get by without a car. An airport shuttle can be arranged in advance for $40 plus $10 for each additional passenger, or of course, taxis are readily available at the airport. Morritt's also provides round trip shuttle transportation for weekday shopping trips to Georgetown for $10 per person.

Morritt's Grand and Tortuga Club Grand Cayman: Rooms

The resort is set up in condo-style units ranging from studio apartments to 2 bedroom penthouses. Each unit has a full kitchen, stocked with pots and pans, small appliances, and tableware, plus a bathroom, sitting area, and porch looking out either onto a pool or the ocean. The studio units are a bit on the small side, but the 1 bedroom has plenty of room for a family with 1-2 children who can sleep on the sleeper sofa, and the 2 bedroom is available for larger groups.

The rooms are very clean, with housekeepers coming through daily to change towels, sweep the floors, and even do the dishes if they have time. The furnishings are a little bit cheesy, with bright large floral print drapes in the rooms in Tortuga Club, but to be expected at a beach resort. The beds and couches are not the most comfortable ever (they feel like kind of hard pieces of foam), but you will probably be used to them by the end of the week.

Morritt's Grand and Tortuga Club Grand Cayman: Amenities and Activities

There are more than enough things to do at the resort, from a full schedule of resort activities to a number of things that you can pick up anytime. Right on the beach, you can enjoy swimming and snorkeling by wading in from the sand, and there is a dive shop on site that rents out wave runners and sailboats, along with having daily boat trips. The resort also has three swimming pools available to all guests, two of which have swim-up bars and hot tubs. Daily activities include water aerobics, relay races and trivia challenges, kids camp, movies, and various social gatherings.

As far as food goes, there is David's restaurant on-site with daily specials, along with the popular Mimi's Dock Bar that serves drinks, appetizers, and light meals from 11am to 11pm. Prices are a bit high at all of the above, but that is to be expected at a resort. For those who prefer to do their own cooking, there is a small grocery store just a block down the street that has ingredients for just about any typical meal.

Morritt's Grand and Tortuga Club Grand Cayman: Overall Impressions

Overall, Morritt's is a wonderful place to spend a week. Although there is not much entertainment available near the resort, there are more than enough activities onsite to keep most people busy for a week, and the excitement of Georgetown and Seven Mile Beach is just a 40 minute drive away. The beautiful beach and peaceful atmosphere is sure to leave you wishing for another week in this Caribbean paradise!
