Review of the Movie 300
Based on the Historical Battle of Thermopylae, Between the Spartans and the Persians
The two main characters in the film are the Spartan king Leonidas, played by Gerard Butler and the Persian king Xerxes, played by Rodrigo Santoro. The Spartans are known that in the ancient world they raised the finest warriors, starting right from their birth the male babies who were seen as unfit and weak to be warriors were thrown in the mountains. The case was the same with Leonidas, who from early age was taught how to fight, never surrender and never back down. After he had proven to his fellow Spartans that he was the greatest warrior that they had ever seen, he was crowned as their king. And later on in the film he would lead just a small group of 300 fierce warriors to battle to protect their homeland.
Xerxes, the king of the Persians, is a totally different ruler from his Spartan counterpart. He only commands his troops and does not fight among them. The character of Xerxes, is portrayed as a person who can compromise, but also as a person who can be cruel. Those who oppose him or fail in battle are beheaded on his request. . His appearance is accented through many piercings on his face, golden chains on his head, neck, hands and on the rest of his body. Xerxes is carried on an immense golden platform carried by his servants, his lifestyle is shown as being very royal and glamorous.
There are many other noteworthy characters in the movie "300" such as Leonidas' wife, Queen Gorgo played by Lena Headey, who tries to convince the Spartan Senate to send reinforcements to help Leonidas in battle. The movie also contains characters that include traitors, beautiful women, super warriors, oracles, monsters, and beasts that will further thicken the plot of the movie.
The best part of the movie besides the interesting story line, are the actual battle scenes. Leonidas and his brave 300 warriors will battle the Persian army for days. There are waves of attacks by the Persians that will include foot soldiers with spears, cavalry, special swordsmen from East Asia, animals such as elephants and rhinos and many more things never seen before by Leonidas and his men. The sound of death and the picture of blood can be heard and seen in every battle scene and can be very graphic.
For my conclusion I will not specify how the movie ends but rather I will urge you to go out to the cinema and see the movie "300", an epic story of action, drama and war.
