While it's not as cheesy as comparable gluten filled products, it has a nice light creamy flavor that I found really delicious. I do have to admit that I was initially disappointed that it didn't have that delicious artificial cheese taste, but I quickly got used to the more sophisticated flavor of the pasta.
One of the most important aspects of gluten free food (and the one that seems to be the most challenging to get right) is texture. The texture of Mrs. Leeper's pasta is very good. It's soft, but firm, just like "real" pasta. I don't believe it would be distinguishable from its gluten filled equivalents if it weren't for the bright orange color of the noodles.
My biggest complaint about the product is the price. Over five dollars for a box of pasta and some cheese flavor is a little steep, especially when it yields only about two or three medium sized portions. However, anyone who has purchased gluten free products knows that this is not at all rare.
One of the main reasons I recommend this pasta is because it can easily be modified. Tofu or chicken can be used instead of tuna to create different tastes. It can also be topped with cheddar cheese to add a cheesier flavor to the pasta. If you miss the crunchy topping on the gluten filled alternatives, try crushing up some gluten free crackers or pretzels and sprinkling them on your plate. Cheese and crushed crackers are an easy way to fake the taste of similar gluten filled products.
Overall, I highly recommend Mrs. Leeper's Creamy Tuna Pasta. The flavor is more adult, but absolutely delicious and the noodles have a soft yet firm texture that is much more like the "real thing" than many gluten free foods. If it weren't for the price, I would be eating it at least once a week.
