For those of you that do not know in 1994 MTV had an hour long segment called MTV's Oddities. Two shows were featured The Head and The Maxx. The Maxx is based off the comic of the same name and is a faithful adaptation. The Head is about a regular guy named Jim who wakes up with an alien living inside of his head named Roy. The two team up to stop another alien race from taking over the world. You know your usual show. I haven't seen this show in about 15 years and it totally takes me right back there. What is so great about this show is how strange it is and how you never know what is going to happen next. It also had the first TV kiss between two men (Not sure if that is true, but it seems like it). Also a cameo from Butt-Head of Beavis and Butt-Head.
The quality of the show is actually better than I remember it being on TV with crisp and clear picture. The sound quality is also top notch without a flaw. The DVD menu leaves something to desire with two choices "Play All" and "Episode Selection." Even the chapter skip hardly works and often skips into the episode. It's a pretty cheap DVD it almost feels like a bootleg other than I know it isn't.
It is nice to finally get to see one of my favorite shows again, but I would have liked a Box set of both of MTV's Oddities with The Maxx included. Special features would have also been nice. You do get the MTV Oddities end, but not the beginning or any of the after commercial break segments which would have been nice. For the price though I am simply glad to have the show at all. I would recommend this to anyone and I hope you enjoy it.
"Hey Jim did you ever study DVD reviews in school?"
