Review of Munchie P's Restaurant in Geneva Illinois
One the long standing staple fast food diners located in Geneva is Munchie P's located at 415 East State in the downtown area. The restaurant has been situated along State or (Route 38) for a long time and even went through a complete rebuilding period back in 2002 as it went from a very dated drive in format to becoming the corner end location of a strip mall. I have lived in the Fox Valley area for about sixteen years and have visited this restaurant probably about ten times. My past visits have included dining in as well as getting the food to go to bring home to the family. There are approximately about a dozen booths for those that choose to dine in. The restaurant appears to be doing quite well as it has stood the test of time and seems to get a pretty decent lunch rush during the weekdays.
Menu
Whether in the city of Chicago or out in the suburbs, the fast food burger, beef, and hot dog joint is an absolute must for both the white and blue collar workers. The Chicago area prides itself upon having easy access to greasy spoons serving up families and worker bees in pursuit of that tasty gyro or Italian beef loaded with hot peppers. Munchie P's is this sort of joint. The menu covers all the basics and more. One can even order up a sloppy joe should the need arise. The hamburgers are grilled and the gyros are done in typical fashion with the slow rotation of pressboard meat on the giant skewer. Hot dogs are served Chicago style which includes the celery salt and even cucumber slices. The kid's meals include the obvious choices of chicken tenders, hot dog, grilled cheese, and corn dog which include a drink and side of fries.
Taste
As I probably visit this store about once a year, I usually select the cheeseburger. The burgers are slowly cooked over the flames and have a really decent chargrilled flavor. Adding some lettuce, tomato, onion, and a variety of other condiments and this meal comes a close second to the Portillos burger. The gyros are the other big seller of this restaurant, though the portions seem rather weak compared to Goody's down the road to the west side of the city. My children usually opt for the hot dogs that look pretty tasty.
The bonus of stopping in to Munchie P's for lunch or dinner is the French fries. They have the crinkle cut style that is fried to a perfect golden brown every time. If you want to shave a month or two off your life span, definitely opt for the cheese sauce to accompany the fries. The fries alone can be reason enough to pull in for lunch.
Service
The counter service at Munchie P's is always generally quite friendly which is nice considering the large lunch and dinner crowds that tend to makes some counter help very ornery. The timing of food is pretty good with the exception of orders that include hamburgers. These hamburgers are made fresh so patience is required. I like the fact that these burgers are made to order and have no issues waiting a few minutes. This store always appears very clean though it is pretty small and full of customers which make dining in conditions very distracting when trying to converse during a meal.
Overall
The parking spaces offered in front of Munchie P's is very limited and can be quite cumbersome if stopping in during peak hours. I rate this restaurant as average and keep this stop at a maximum of about one or two visits per year as I prefer the quantity and proximity of Goody's.
