Hers is not just a magazine about getting hot and looking cute, but it is really focused on the fitness. The ladies that grace the pages are in incredible shape . . . not too skinny and sexily muscular. While Hers definitely focuses on muscle building, not every lady featured looks like a power lifter. They all have one thing in common, and that is that they are toned.
The magazine contains articles about diet, exercise, products, lifestyles, food, and attitude. The common theme is that being fit is part of life. Since this is the case, the magazine contains information on diet, recipes for healthy foods, product reviews, detailed workouts, training schedules, and feature articles on fit people in real jobs. The layout is great, with a good balance of pictures, graphics, advertisements and words. The articles are varied, interesting, helpful, and clear.
The workouts contained on the pages are low on frills and high on intensity. Best of all the instructions and pictures are so straight-forward and easy to follow, that I actually got up off the couch to try them. Each issue contains a broad range of workouts for different muscle groups and skill levels.
The only real negative of this magazine is the high number of supplement and diet pill advertisements. With the huge variety being advertised, it is confusing on what is really recommended, and this is a big contrast with the concise nature of the rest of the magazine.
Hers is available in many major chain stores, and retails for $4.99 in the United States and $6.99 in Canada (newsstand price). It is around one-hundred pages long. Check out the website at
Overall, Hers is a refreshing take on fitness, life, and what fitness magazines should be about. If you want a read that gets you motivated to work out while providing detailed information on how to do it, then this is the read for you. So, put down that hot chocolate, get off of the couch, and get out and pick up a copy today. www.muscleandfitnesshers.com for articles and forums.
