Review Muskegon State Park Campgrounds in Michigan
A Great Weekend Getaway for Families and Romantics!!!
On our recent trip to Muskegon Lake State Park in August 2007 we explored the entire park and all it had to offer. We were located in the Lake Michigan Campground site 46 which was on Lake Michigan. You walked up a sand dune and there you were looking out into the vast beauty that is Lake Michigan. Our campsite was literally on the backside of a sand dune which made it fun and a little messy I must admit. The Lake Michigan Campground is mostly sand and the sites are shaded hovered over by huge trees. My favorite part about our campsite was the sunset views it revealed. On numerous occasions while watching the sunset I lost myself in its beauty often forgetting I was in Michigan it seemed as if I was in some tropical remote destination.
We also explored the other campground know as the channel campground which is located on the Muskegon Lake channel which leads out to Lake Michigan. These sites are a mix of sand and grass and less shaded then the sites in the other campground. There is also a paved parking space on each campsite which is very nice especially with all of the sand; the Lake Michigan campground did not have this. The most interesting park of this campground is watching the freighters enter the channel towards Muskegon Lake from Lake Michigan. We were able to witness this and I have never been that close to a shipping freighter it really puts into perspective how large these ships are.
These campsites have very modern and updated restroom facilities and are relatively close to shopping if you forgot any necessities. While we spent most of our time lying on the beach and walking along it shore there is so much it has to offer. I recommend this park to anyone interested in a having a little fun in the sun while saving same money camping!!!
