Jove Romantic Suspense

One of the things I've come to admire about Ms. Feehan's writing is her ability to take flawed characters and work them into believable heroes and heroines. She does that again in Night Games.

This is the second in this particular series by Ms. Feehan that I've read so far and I have a few more on the to be read shelf, so I'll be adding reviews of those books as time goes by.

In Shadow Game we were introduced to two groups of men and women who have been genetically enhanced by Dr. Whitney. One was a group of young girls who had signs of physic abilities, the other group he took in later in life, a group of men, all special forces, who he enhanced and trained.

Night Game focuses on Gator Fontenot, one of the team featured in Shadow Game, and Iris "Flame" Johnson. Both share similar abilities. The gift of sound, and in an effort to find a missing woman, Joy, they are drawn together to face the darkness in their past, and the passion their future together might hold.

But there is a problem. Flame wants nothing to do with anyone connected with Whitney. Or his adopted daughter, Lily. And she has good cause. For the illustrious Whitney used Flame as a living experiment in more ways than one. Not content with enhancing her physic abilities, he played with her health for at one point Flame had cancer. He cured her, then brought it back time and again, adapting it into a form of cancer no one had seen before, using it in a series of warped experiments and the last thing Flame wants is to be placed back in Whitney's hands.

It doesn't matter that Lily thinks he's dead, or that most of the team also believes that. Flame knows differently. She can't prove it, but in her heart she knows that this man is still alive, still tracking her, and still waiting in the wings to turn her into the walking, talking toy she was during her childhood. And she'd rather die than let that happen.

But Gator has other plans and his soft, sultry Cajun charm is almost too much for her to ignore. If that wasn't bad enough, Gator's own Grandmother has plans for them as she wants babies in the family and Flame is just the woman to make her lad calm down and start providing them.

I loved this book, I laughed, cried and hoped along with the characters. I found myself wanting a grandmother (Nonny) like Gator had when they opened up the bag of sexy goodies that had been sent to them in one part of the story. Ms. Feehan has created yet another amazing story. One mixing suspense, drama and erotically charged romance all rolled into one.
