Review on No-Mow Grass

Deana Marshall (Baconator)
No Mow Grass promises to reduce your workload and expense by not having to mow or water your grass regularly. No Mow Grass is real grass, just like the lawn you are currently tending to with the exception that it does not grow as high (3 to 6 inches), requires less watering, and stays greener longer. I cannot speak for anyone else, but I enjoy mowing my lawn. No Mow Grass recommends a single mowing in the spring, once in early summer and once in the fall. That is three times you mow through the grass season. This leaves your lawn looking like a meadow, just a little shorter. I like my yard to look well manicured, so I would not recommend No Mow Grass for anyone who is anal about their yard like me.

In comparing price of No Mow Grass just by price per pound, No Mow Grass is more expensive. One pound of Original No Mow Grass is $24.95, their drought tolerant runs $28.95 a pound, and their Improved Lush Blue-Green is $34.95 a pound. Regular grass seed runs around $7.00 to $8.00 a pound. However, do the benefits justify the cost, you be the judge.

No Mow Grass recommends that if you must water your No Mow Grass lawn, use gray water. Gray water is wastewater from sinks, showers, and bathtubs, but not toilets. Okay, I like the idea of recycling, but I am not digging having to haul my bathtub and kitchen water to a tank, storing it, little lone straining it like the No Mow Grass recommends prior to saving it. Not only that, but also No Mow Grass recommends that you do not use detergents or bleach so that means dingy whites. Now on the other hand, my regular lawn, I can water right from my hose and my grass loves me for it and my whites are white, not gray.

Another issue that could cause problems for some is No Mow Grass can only withstand medium traffic. My regular grass lawn deals with four boys daily and high traffic. I would not recommend this grass for anyone who has more then one child or full size dogs.

There is still seasonal maintenance with No Mow Grass as there is with regular lawns; they just vary some. No Mow Grass requires a light layer of peat moss or compost spread over your lawn in the spring.

No Mow Grass feels like regular grass under your feet, because it is real grass. It has a beautiful green color which is appealing and even though the No Mow Grass stays green longer through cold months, it greens later in the beginning season leaving you with a brown yard for a while when the neighbors is green.

No Mow Grass would be great for someone who is retired and travels a lot or older individuals where yard work has become cumbersome. College students and people who travel a lot with their work would also benefit from No Mow Grass as well as anyone who despises yard work and does not spend much time in their yard. However, in my opinion, No Mow Grass is not practical for an active family with children who enjoy playing in the yard on swing sets and bikes. No Mow Grass has it conveniences but I am not sold that it is the right lawn for everyone.

I have never heard of this- but my fiance would lose his shorts if he didn't have a lawn to maintain! It's his favorite summer hobby!

well, i live in southern California and we have an energy issue pending (along with everything else). After seeing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGHrWPtCvg0 I made the choice to go low energy and bought some of this No Mowing Lawn grass from NoMowGrass.com

When I priced other grasses - it cost about the same since this seed is so small - a little bit covers a fairly large area. I think it will take a while, but the rest of the world will catch on to low maintenance lawns and conservation of water like we think about here in California.

Another biggie was the talk about making all new lawn mowers low emissions so if I ever needed to buy a new mower - i would have to pay twice as much anyway.

One benefit I really like- (besides the low maintenance) is this grass seems to do good without chemicals (another big issue here in CA).

Do I love it? I'm on the border but the more I see other people mowing - the more I really like it.

I hate mowing. Here I've only got a small patch. In Michigan, I have some beautiful weeds, which are green an can just be mowed over by any old thing and forgotten. No muss -- no fuss. Great article!

Ohh! Uncle Tony here to say that this here mowless grass is a beautiful thing, but then I seen the price. Forgetttaboutit! For that money, I should get grass that drives up to the freakin house and plants itself.

Besides, I got other problems. Which is a rabbit that thinks my garden is a buffet. I think I'm gonna get anal too.

I'm gonna get some of that pestostericide, and ram it up Bugs Bunny's anal.

    God Bless.

    Tony.

This would be perfect for us but I can't imagine this would work in a high heat/humidity area like Houston. Thanks for the info!

Anal about your yard? Here's a great secret: Most of us guys only love to mow because while we mow we can't hear anyone else! Other than that our yards could look like the last eden and we'd just stand there yawning and scratching ourselves.

I'm with you. I like to mow my yard. This grass sounds pretty cool, though. I'd like to learn more. Great article.
