Review: Odwalla's Chocolate Protein Monster Protein Shake
The Chocolate Protein Shake that Tastes like a Brownie
The Taste
First things first: when it comes to drinks you want to know how it tastes. I've got good news for you. The Chocolate Protein Monster tastes delicious. If I had to compare it to something, I would say it tastes exactly like a brownie. And I mean exactly like a brownie. This came as a surprise to me as most high-protein drinks do not usually taste good at all. However, if you would like a liquid brownie without all the bad feelings afterwards, then Odwalla's got you covered.
The Nutrition
Odwalla markets their drinks as "superfood" with the "best ingredients" using the "latest learning in nutrition." So when I picked up the Chocolate Protein Monster, I naturally took a look at its backside. The nutrition facts of the protein shake do not disappoint. It has 18 grams of protein to keep you full for a long time. According to Harvard's School of Public Health, we need around 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. So the Chocolate Protein Monster will cover almost 1/3 of my protein for the day. Not bad for a single shake. However, you should keep in mind that a bottle of Chocolate Protein Monster has 220 calories in it, which is a lot for a drink.
The Price
How much will it cost me, you ask? Well Odwalla's Chocolate Protein Monster protein shake is not the cheapest date in drink land. It will likely be more than your average chocolate milk of the same size. But keep this in mind: the Chocolate Protein Monster counted for a large part of my breakfast. So instead of spending money getting my nutrition through other things, I bought this protein shake. In the end, my breakfast costs about the same with the Chocolate Protein Monster.
Overall, I definitely enjoyed Odwalla's Chocolate Protein Monster protein shake. It tastes like a brownie, kept me full for a while, and is healthier than a lot of other drinks I have had. Besides, who wouldn't want a liquid brownie that is also pretty good for you?

Post a Commentjust one thing: there are acutally 440 calories in a bottle, since there are 2 servings per bottle (220 cal. per serving). you can always drink half & save half for later. i agree--I think this protein shake tastes yummy, and i feel really good after drinking it, as opposed to some of the protein bars out there.
Great review, Travis! This is good news for me as my trainer has been hounding me to start drinking protein and I have been resistant cuz they tend to be yucky!
