Review of Old Navy's Diva Skinny Jeans

Nik Minor
Though I've always dug the skinny jean style, I didn't jump on the bandwagon until recently. For one, I don't like particularly stretchy jeans. For two, I gave up low rise jeans years ago. Over the past year, I've tried on a handful of skinny jeans, only to find either one or both of the above flaws. I'd pretty much given up on finding the perfect pair of skinny jeans when I found Old Navy's Diva skinny jeans.

I've never been fond of Old Navy jeans, though I know many who are. I've always disliked the fit and thought the material felt stiff and cheap. But I've always appreciated Old Navy's prices, especially on their kid's clothing. Plus, as a GAP rewards member, I can always nab at least an extra 15 percent off any Old Navy purchase (and build rewards points). So, I'm pretty much in Old Navy at least once a month.

Until the Diva, I hadn't tried on a pair of Old Navy jeans in years. On a whim, while shopping for fall baby clothes, I decided to give Old Navy another chance when I saw that they had skinny jeans on sale. Originally priced at $29.50, they were on sale for $20. I grabbed a pair of the grey Diva skinny jeans and headed to the fitting room.

At 5'9", I'm relatively tall, but not necessarily tall enough to need the Gap or Old Navy long length of pants. Usually, I grab both the Regular and Long lengths if they've got them, but the Diva's at my Old Navy were only in stock in Regular. From the moment I slid them on, I was sold. They fit just as I imagined a skinny pair should: tight along the thighs and calves, without pinching at the waste. The Old Navy Diva skinny jeans fall just above my ankle, which would bother me on another style, but which I prefer in the skinny jeans. They also sit above the hips, which is great because it means that if I bend over, I'm not rocking the plumber effect. The only downside is that the Diva is a little loose along the back of the waist, likely because I'm not packing much back there. I loathe belts, so I do find this a little annoying, but may just take in the waste a little in the back. The Diva's aren't super tight along the calves, but I like the effect and they can still be tucked into boots, without looking bunched. After wearing all night, the Old Navy Diva skinny jeans didn't really lose their shape. Any elasticity that is lost is soon tightened up with washing.

With all of my coupons and promotions, I nabbed the jeans for about $14. Even at $29.50, they were well worth the price.

Alas, I'm too old for skinny jeans.

I love skinny jeans, too...but at 5'3" I am not sure how great they look on me unless they're tucked into my boots. GREAT review!
