Review of Old Town Creamery - Homemade Ice Cream in Dallas

Taru Mehta
I am very much fond of eating various types of ice creams in various authentic shops or outlets serving ice cream. I have been able to satisfy this aspect to a great extent here in the U.S., as there are many shops that serve wide varieties of the ice cream. I have recently come our daughter's place in Dallas for a family get-together here in Dallas. After the family get-together was over, we visited one ice cream shop in the city of Plano suggested by our daughter and son-in-law during our last weekend. The shop is named the Old Town Creamery, which is located at 6205 Coit Road # 344, Plano, TX, 75024, at the North West corner of Spring Creek and Coit. The phone number is 972-673-0285. Our visit to this ice cream shop turned out to be a pleasant surprise for all of us, as we tasted some unique flavors of ice cream here. I am going to review this excellent ice cream shop in this article.

As soon as we entered the shop, the Indian owner of the shop welcomed us all very warmly. The menu was handed over to us all and we were pleasantly surprised to find out around 12 varieties of international flavors of the ice creams in it, over and above around twenty-eight varieties of the American ice creams. The American varieties consisted of Irish Cream, Cotton Candy, Cookies and Cream, Butter Pecan, Vanilla Cinnamon, Pistachio, Apple Pie, Bubble Gum, Mint Chocolate Chips, Cappuccino, Blue Berry, Swiss Chocolate, and Raspberry Sorbet along with many others. The Indian/international flavors included ice creams like Almond/Pistachio/Saffron, Cashew/Raisin, Chikoo, Fig, Mango, Lychee, Falooda, Butterscotch, Almond Dates, Pan, and the Thandai. As I myself had not tasted the Indian varieties of the ice creams in last six months of my stay here at the USA, I went for two Indian varieties of ice creams like Pan and Thandai. Most of our family members also preferred the Indian flavors of the ice creams. Though, I have stayed in India for around 35 years of my life in India, I have not tasted the ice cream in Pan and Thandai varieties. The taste of Pan ice cream was very similar to the sweet taste of Indian Pan, which is an Indian specialty. The Thandai variety of ice cream is made from the mixture of various cool items like Variali, Gulkand, and other such items. The taste of both these varieties of ice creams was simply superb and I am sure that most of my Indian friends would love it.

The price of the ice creams was also within a reasonable range. The small ice cream portion, either in cone or cup was available at $2.79. The medium and the large portions were available at the rates of $3.89, and $4.49 respectively. The small portion was also more than sufficient for all of us as the small serving consisted two full scoops of the ice cream. One of the most vital aspects of this shop is that all the ice creams sold here are made at this shop only and are not got from any other outside source. The milk shakes, ice cream cakes, fat free varieties of the yogurts, and the most delicious cup cakes are also available here. The shop has a sitting capacity of around 40 persons inside and around 20 persons outside the shop. Incidentally, it is worth mentioning here that this Old Town Creamery has been awarded with the award of "The Best Frozen Treats in Dallas area" by the famous magazine of Guide live. Our experience of visiting it also confirmed the basis of giving such an award. Our entire family enjoyed this ice cream shop immensely.

Based upon our experience of this unique ice cream shop, I am fully confident that all my AC readers, particularly all my Indian friends would love to visit this ice cream shop to satisfy their craving for some of the unique and tasty Indian varieties of the ice creams.
