Review: Online Episode Player - CBS

Innertube

Judith Blakley
One of my favorite online episode players to use is the one provided to us by CBS. They even have an adorable name for it: Innertube. How witty!

I have been using Innertube for over a year now and love it. I will sometimes choose to watch something else, knowing that I can easily catch up with my favorite shows online. I have noticed that they are expanding their online lineup to include soaps, news shows and special event broadcasting.

Shows Currently Available:

As The World Turns
Big Bang Theory
Cane
CSI
CSI Miami
CSI: New York
Guiding Light
How I Met Your Mother
Jericho
Kid Nation
Moonlight
NCIS
Numb3rs
Rules of Engagement
Shark
Survivor: China
The Unit
The Young And The Restless

How To Use Innertube:

1. CBS' online episode player, Innertube, can be found at this web address: www.cbs.com/innertube

2. Click on "All Shows" and a new page will open up with the player.

3. On the right side of the page will be the player itself. The left side of the page is where you choose what to watch. If you click "Full Episodes," the list above will come up and you can then choose your show. You could also choose to watch an Innertube Original. CBS has created shows just for online viewing. Some of these shows are linked to a current CBS television show. You can even catch some past shows, such as The Emmy Awards.

4. Once you have chosen your show, a listing of the episodes will appear. Choose the episode you wish to watch and it will begin playing on the right side of your screen.

5. You can choose to make the viewing screen larger and adjust the volume using the controls.

My Experiences With Innertube:

I wish I could say that I only encounter great things when using Innertube, but I have found that on some occasions that if I need to pause the player it will revert back to start. I find the player easy to use and understand and very well organized. I wish I could watch old seasons of The Amazing Race and Survivor on Innertube, but I doubt they will ever offer those for free.

CBS is using a new player, though it seems innertube is still up and running as well. I also like the CBS online player best!

Writer's Strike Note: When you watch a television show online, download a podcast or buy a season on DVD - the writers get no residual income. The actors, producers and network make money, but the people who wrote the words the actors spoke get nothing.
