Review: Online Episode Player - FOX

Fox on Demand

Judith Blakley
Most television networks have online episode players where you can watch television episodes you missed. Fox is slightly behind the other major networks and still has their episode player in Beta mode. If you are patient through the glitches as Fox works out the kinks, you will find that their player quality is as good as the rest of the pack. They still have some work to do, including adding shows to their online lineup. They did not even add their top show House until a couple of weeks ago.

Thankfully, they finally added House, and all is good in my television viewing world. When I checked back with Fox On Demand (the name they gave their online player) I was surprised at the extent of their offerings. If you are fans of Fox Television Network, you should be able to view most of your favorite shows online.

Shows Currently Available:

House
King of the Hill
Kitchen Nightmares
K Ville
Mad TV
Nashville
Prison Break
The Simpsons
Talkshow
'til Death
American Dad
Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?
Back To You
Bones
Cops
Family Guy

How To Use The Episode Player:

1. The web address for Fox On Demand is: http://www.fox.com/fod/

2. The shows will be displayed on the left side of the page. Click on the show you would like to watch and it will open up into another page where the episode player will load the show for you to watch.

3. I have found that it takes a long time for the shows to load, but once they correct that issue, the screen will open up with controls for you to adjust the viewer size and volume.

4. They also include a control for you to send the episode to a friend.

My Experiences With This Episode Player:

I find that it takes too long to load and too long to close pages with this player. While revisiting this player in order to give accurate information, I could not get the sample show to load up and then I could not get Fox to close. I had to completely close the browser and thankfully, I opened up a separate browser for viewing that website and did not lose the other items I was working on. I am more motivated never to miss an episode of House on television so that I am not tempted to try to use this player.

Writer's Strike Note: When you watch a television show online, download a podcast or buy a season on DVD - the writers get no residual income. The actors, producers and network make money, but the people who wrote the words the actors spoke get nothing.
