When I attempted to go to work Tuesday morning, I truly believed I was over the stomach bug that had left me sick for two days and resulted in me losing 5 pounds in roughly the same amount of time. However, about an hour into my shift, I realized that wasn't the case and, once again, I spent the day at home.
Since I was still having issues eating solid foods, my parents sent over a packet of noodle soup mix from the Our Family brand. And, even though I wasn't particularly hungry at the time, I figured I should at least attempt to eat something and decided to give it a try at dinner.
To tell you the truth, I really wasn't expecting a whole lot from this product. Based on the package and the instructions, it sounded a lot like a dozen other instant soup products that are out there and, since I have never been a huge fan of those, I honestly wasn't expecting a whole lot from this brand either. In fact, I was actually expecting it to make things worse since most other soups like this one are very salty, something that normally makes me sick in itself.
However, after trying this soup mix, I have to admit I was very impressed with it.
First of all, much like other instant soups, it was very easy to make. I just needed to bring water to a boil, add the packet and then let it simmer for 5 minutes. Considering I was feeling somewhat weak at the time (you would be too if you lost 5 pounds in less than two days), this was definitely appreciated.
As far as taste goes, I was actually somewhat surprised. It was a bit salty, especially as I got to the bottom of the pot. But, it wasn't nearly as bad as so many of the other brands and, overall, I was OK with it.
My only real complaint about this soup was the lack of noodles in it. However, shortly after I made this complaint verbally, I discovered it did, in fact, have quite a few noodles in it. They had just settled to the bottom corner of the pot.
In fact, when it was all said and done, I actually ended up liking this soup mix. I don't know if I would buy it on a regular basis (mostly because we don't usually buy soup mixes like this very often). But, if I had a choice between this one and the others, this would be the one I would pick.
