The Product
These are round, lightly quilted pads, about 2 inches in diameter. In my opinion, these pads smell too strongly of alcohol, but she didn't seem to mind. She used them every morning and evening, and we did see a change in her skin - not just less acne, but healthier, almost glowing skin. I used them along with her, and I continue to use them from time to time when I get a hint of acne. I know first hand that they sting a bit if you have open acne sores, but it doesn't last and ultimately leaves the skin a bit tingly and fresh feeling. I have combination skin, especially in the T-zone. Some areas are dry and some are still oily (even at 51 years of age!). When I see or feel a pimple coming, I bring out my Oxy pads and it really does help them not to develop into much of anything. When I have to use these, it is usually in the morning, and then I use a good moisturizer in the evenings at bed time.
The Oxy Pads are saturated with the cleansing/acne fighting ingredients, and never dry out. In fact, by the time I get to the last last pad, there is usually excess liquid in the bottom of the container.
I remember asking my Dr. what products would work the best for acne, and she said that there are many on the market, but to look for one that contains Salicylic Acid. That is the active ingredient in my Oxy Pads.
Directions for Use
The directions say to cleanse skin thoroughly before applying, but I don't. After all, these are called cleansing pads! These work very well as a cleanser, and I'm really surprised at the dirt they remove from my skin and pores. At first they did tend to make my skin drier (the container warns of this), most likely due to the alcohol content, but my face seemed to adjust to it. The moisturizing effects of the glycerin offset the drying effects of the alcohol. The package says that they can be used 1 to 3 times daily if needed, and if over drying occurs to only use them once a day or every other day.
The Oxy Deep Pore pads are more expensive than plain old soap and water, but they are also more effective in treating acne than soap and water.
Availability
I have been able to purchase Oxy Pads in a variety of stores such as KMart, WalMart, grocery stores, and online at websites like Drugstore.com.
Cost
I spent $3.50 for a container of 55 pads. Since I only use occasionally, they last a very long time, and as long as I screw the lid on tightly, they do not dry out.
