Review of Pace University in New York, New York really starts and ends in the same fantastic location, New York City. Pace University features a number of campus locations and a number of professional schools that draw some 8,000 undergrads and approximately 4,000 students enrolled in Masters and Doctoral programs. The school certainly offers great diversity in the areas in which it teaches and enlists professors to teach a total of 3,000 courses each year. While these are all impressive numbers, the real key to the difference one finds at Pace always seems closely connected to the fact that the school is located in one of the great professional classrooms you will find anywhere in the world - New York City.

Academics. There are lots of specialty schools in New York City. Schools for art, music, architecture and many other select areas of study. Pace offers both specialty training and a great deal of diversity. Because of its overall size Pace University is able to offer undergraduates approximately 100 undergraduate majors. You are very likely to find the course work you need to take you to your desired end at Pace University. At the same time Pace includes under its university umbrella some definite specialty schools . Besides the College of Arts and Sciences Pace University also enrolls students in the Schools of Business, Nursing, Education, Law and Computer Sciences. At Pace there are plenty of choices for you to make, but once you determine your goal there is also the opportunity to enjoy concentrating on your area of interest.

Melting Pot, In a Melting Pot. Students of all kinds from all over the U.S. are attracted by the idea of coming to college in New York City. If you choose Pace University and they accept you, you will have the chance in a sense to really live the dream of many other high school seniors. One of the main attractions of going to college in New York City is that it is a city that is likely the most cosmopolitan in the United States. There are foreign representatives of government, the arts, education, culture and business around every corner. Perhaps that is also one of the big draws for students who decide to come to Pace University. Pace is really a melting pot within a melting pot. Not only do Pace students benefit from the international aspects of the city of New York itself but when they look around Pace University they discover that there classmates represent some 129 foreign countries either as immigrants or as international students. There can be little doubt that going to college at Pace University means opening yourself to interpersonal relationships that are an education all by themselves.

Finding a Focus. Living in a multi-cultural school in the middle of a multi-cultural city can definitely be an enriching experiences. But students coming from rural or even suburban areas can find life in New York City over powering. That's why it is important for students to be able to find on campus activities beyond their regular class work, that allow them to find a focus and to settle into a comfort zone. Doing familiar activities with people who share your interests or hobbies can be one helpful approach. At Pace University there are plenty of student centered activities from which to choose. Students find that with nearly 90 separate activities not only is there always something going on at Pace but there is usually a club, group or organization in which they have a real interest. There are even sororities and fraternities for those so inclined.

Pace University offers varsity sports intercollegiate competition in 19 sports for undergrads. Baseball competes at the NCAA division I level while other teams find their competitors among the ranks of Division II. Sports provide activity for athletes but also are a source of socialization for student fans.

Pace Reaches 100. In 2006 Pace University celebrated its centennial and fine fashion. Former U. S. President, Bill Clinton received and honorary degree from pace and helped to kick off the year of celebration. Maya Angelou paid tribute to the 100 year history of Pace University with a visit to the college campus. Even the New York Stock Exchange took note of the Pace University milestone, welcoming Pace to ring in the NASDAQ stock market opening bell in Mid-Town Manhattan.

The University of course could hardly celebrate its 100 year birthday without a remembrance of the role of Pace University during the tragedy of 9/11. Because part of Pace University is located only 4 blocks from Ground Zero it was intimately connected with all that happened on that day and in the sad days that followed. Students were evacuated and safely relocated to other areas of the university while EMT's turned the admissions lobby into a triage area for victims. Those who review Pace University will note that there are memorial statues on all campuses dedicated to the 4 Pace students and over 40 alumni who lost their lives in this tragedy.

Bottom Line. As one might expect, a private college in New York City offering 100 majors, multiple campuses, several undergraduate colleges, 19 intercollegiate sports and a real window to the world, does not offer entrance without a significant price tag. At Pace University tuition will cost about 30, 000 while room and board are apt to run you close to $10,000. Don't make the mistake of thinking that because Pace University is in the city that somehow it is a municipally supported school. Still the goal of Pace University is to make an education at Pace possible for those who are admitted but who have financial need. If you want a Pace education and all that it entails, do not rule Pace out.
