Review of Paint Shop Pro Photo X2

Corel has come out with a new version of their Paint Shop Pro software which is bound to please even the fussiest artist. Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 has some new features which will make photo editing and image creation as simple as falling off of a log.

The new "Express Lab" is probably one of the hottest new tools to be available in this graphics software. Express Lab gives the user the ability to enhance, retouch, and personalize photos with simple sliders. By incorporating sliders into the editing process the user is able to adjust the quality of their photos and graphics on the fly and by sight, without having to guess what numbers, or percentages to input into the effects fields.

There is a new interface known as the "Graphite Theme." This theme for the image software is supposed to make it easier for the user's eyes to focus on the project they are working on. However, if you want to keep the software familiar, you can always revert back to the original interface.

One of the features which Corel is touting is the "HDR Photo Merge" technology. This allows the user to merge two photos that have differing exposure qualities; the software then automatically normalizes the two combined images so that they look like one image. This takes all of the time and trouble out of processing two pictures so that they can be used in a collage, or other effects.

New "Layer Styles" is a nice touch and allows the user to quickly and easily create such effects as drop shadows and bevels, to just name a couple. The nice feature of the "Layer Styles" is that if you make a change to the layer, the styles will automatically change to match it.

The new "Visible Watermarks" tool will ensure that everybody knows who your graphics and photos belong to by creating a discrete and personal watermark on all of your work. Paint Shop Pro comes with an improved black and white conversion, which will ensure that when you want your color photos to be in black and white, that the end result is crisp and clear.

The Makeover Tools are absolutely cool. A new filter includes a tool called "Thinify", which makes the people in your photos appear thinner. It is better than going on Jenny Craig and involves less work as well. The new "Eye Drops" tool removes bloodshot eyes from the subjects in your photos.

For the most part, graphics software is subject to the individual's taste. Many people enjoy Adobe Photoshop and many are loyal to Corel's Paint Shop Pro. I find Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 to be easy to use, and it has a user friendly interface which ensures that your graphics are the best they can be.
