Vastar is a recently released PC strategy game. I decided to use the one hour demo before I bought it. Read on to find out if I liked it enough to buy the full version.

The Vastar game begins with the choosing of one of three characters. You must make a blind choice on which character you will play since the game gives no information other than the name and look. After this the player is given the choice to play the tutorial or to go straight into the game. I chose the tutorial.

The Vastar tutorial is a simple explanation of how to move on the board, differing cursors, how to interact with various items, how to fight enemies and how to talk to other characters. Upon finishing the tutorial the player has earned a couple items which can be used in the regular game. However, the tutorial does not explain how to leave the tutorial. It is up to the player to find out. After a couple minutes I learned that I needed to click at the bottom of the board to exit.

After choosing Vastar's regular game play, the character is placed in a magic school's classroom. The player is then left to move about the school as they wish and to explore various items and talk with other characters. At first this isn't so bad. However, soon I realized that I wasn't accomplishing anything. The only character that told me anything or helped in any way was a wizard who gave me a list.

After exploring every nook and cranny of the magic school, I found I couldn't leave. The one flight of stairs that I assume led out of the school wouldn't work. In other words, when I clicked on the stairs to use them nothing happened.

The graphics of the Vastar game seemed remarkably like that of an old Nintendo game. Despite the game being turn based like the Final Fantasy series, I was reminded of the first Zelda game.

Between the disappointing graphics and the game's confusion and glitches, I could not stand to finish the demo. I most definitely did not want to buy this game and I would not recommend the game Vastar to anyone. I do recommend that anyone interested in Vastar try the one hour demo before buying.

Vastar was developed by Exodus Studios and is available online at Big Fish Games.
