Review - The Pear Tree Inn in Poplar Bluff, Missouri

Antoinette McGowan
We had another chance to stay at a hotel in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. After our disaster at the Super 8 Motel there in which I wrote a review of, we knew we did not want to stay there despite how cheap their rates were. This left us to decide which hotel we would be taking a chance on this time. The Drury Inn there in Poplar Bluff seemed like a nicer more upscale hotel so we decided to try them.

When we went in we were greeted promptly by a woman who asked us what type of room we wanted and then gave us the pricing of the room. The room after taxes was going to run us about 90 or so dollars. While this is a reasonable rate we really did not want to spend that much money on a room. The lady behind the desk informed us that Drury Inn also owned the hotel next door the Pear Tree Inn. She said that the rooms were just as nice but a great deal cheaper. We informed her that we would go next door and check on a room there. The lady nicely informed us that she would call over there and tell them what we were wanting so that they would have it ready by time we got there.

We made the short walk across the parking lot to the Pear Tree Inn and when we walked inside the lady behind the counter there had already had a room ready for us. It did not take long for us to be handed our key to a room on the third floor that only cost us after taxes $44. The lady informed us before we headed to our room that they offered free breakfast in the morning from 6am to 9am. We thanked her and headed to our room.

Our room was on the third floor so we had to go up some stairs to get to it. While an elevator would have been nice, I am not complaining since I am in need of all the exercise I can get after being in this truck. The room was wonderfully decorated for a hotel room along with being very clean. The room came complete with an iron and ironing board, blow dryer and coffee pot. The room also had the normal two full size beds, television, desk and dresser. The finishing touches on the furnishing was a chair at the desk, a round glass table with built-in lamp and a comfortable overstuffed chair.

The lady behind the counter proved to be helpful and very understanding when we could not get our air conditioner in the room to work. We were use to hotel and motel rooms that have knobs on the air conditioners for control the temperature of the room. This air conditioner had all of the knobs removed from it. Upon realizing that the knobs were removed Ken called down to the front desk and asked about what was wrong with the air conditioner. The lady behind the counter informed him that they removed all the knobs because they had installed regular thermos stats in the room and informed us as to where it was located.

Everything went great from there on out and we had no problems or hassles for the remainder of the night. The next morning I had noticed a brochure for Drury Inn's gold key club. At check out time I went to the front desk to inquire about this club that they were offering. There was a new girl behind the desk and she spent a few minutes explaining everything to me and told me that if I just gave her a little bit of information she would go in and sign me up herself. I gave her the information and when I was ready to leave she told me that she would go in and manually set it so that I got points for the previous nights stay there.

I would recommend that anyone needing to stay in a hotel in Poplar Bluff, Missouri stay at the Pear Tree Inn or their owners the Drury Inn. The Drury Inn does offer a little bit more than the Pear Tree Inn such as an indoor pool. Aside from that both hotels will offer you a great room and prompt and friendly service. As an ending note I will tell you that I can not vouch for their breakfast, since the bed was so comfortable I slept in past 9 am and was too late to eat breakfast.
