Ingredients (from petsmart.com):

Chicken broth, chicken by-products, chicken, meat by-products, liver, whole grain brown rice, dehulled oatmeal, barley, vegetable oil, dried chicory pulp, flax seed, dried yam, calcium carbonate, carrageenan, taurine, dried tomato pomace, minerals (potassium chloride, zinc sulfate, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide), natural flavor blend, vitamins (l-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate [source of vitamin C], dl-alpha tocopherol acetate [source of vitamin E], biotin, d-calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate [vitamin B1], vitamin A & D supplements), guar gum, marigold extract, xanthan gum, l-carnitine, fish oil (source of omega fatty acids)

Pros:
It claims to be a lower sodium blend.

Cons:

Where to begin? Chicken broth as the first ingredient is not terrible since it is canned food. The second ingredient bothers me though. Chicken by-products have no real meat in them. If the second ingredient was truly meat, the company would proudly state that. By-products could be any part of the chicken left over after processing, usually of no nutritional value.

The third ingredient is chicken. Finally, a meat! Unfortunately chicken without the word meal after it lets us know that it is made of up to 80% water. Removing the weight of the water would put chicken farther down on the list. The next ingredient is meat by-product. There is no specification as to what animal these by-products come from and once again, it is not actual meat, such as turkey meal. Liver follows, once again with no specification as to what type of liver.

Overall Opinion:

I cannot recommend this product. It does not have a quality source of meat, but is filled with by-products from unspecified animals. It seems strange that they would market such junk as heart healthy. I would not let my dogs touch this. For information on what I feed my dogs click here.

I am not a veterinarian, just a concerned pet owner. It is important to consult with your vet when changing diets, but do not assume every veterinarian knows everything about your pet's nutrition. Get a second opinion if you do not feel comfortable with what your vet is telling you.

I am not affiliated with any pet food companies; I simply was misled by commercial dog food companies in the past and feel that you, as a consumer, have every right to know what you are feeding your dog, as well as what you could be feeding your dog. As with anything, you might have a different opinion than I do, that is what makes this world great. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what experience you have had with this food.
