Review: Petites Nail Enamels "Comet" and "Midnight Frost"

Does the Tiny Bottle with a Matching Price Tag Live Up to Exspectations?

I bought my bottles of Petites Nail enamel at Rite Aid for 1.99 each. Unimpressed with other cheap polishes I had purchased, I was not expecting great results.

I originally decided I would use the colors to gloss up my pedicures.

So I used Petites "Comet" and "Midnight Frost" on my pedicures as a final top coat to my flat color pedicures.

This polish dried quickly and I was amazed after a day walking around on the beach in the sand barefoot having had the pedicure already for a week, my nails still looked good.

So after being impressed with the wear on my toes I moved on to fingers. I am a "classic french manicure"type. But I decided to try wearing gray tips with "Midnight Frost" from petites over the gray.

Now full disclosure I always use a good base coat of 2 coats (and let them dry totally) and always finish with a good top coat.

Side note: Petites does make a base coat and a top coat but I did not use these. I have my base and top coats that I swear by and highly recommend using them and not applying nail enamel to bare nails as it stains them and chips and peels faster.

That said Petites "Midnight Frost" not only really made my unique "french" manicure pop, and lasted an entire week with just normal tip wear.

Again full disclosure I wrap my tips by applying it to the underside and top of my nail, and reapply a fresh layer of top coat every other day.

Petites has a good consistency unlike a lot of more expensive polish it doesn't separate, and it doesn't streak when you apply it to the nail. The color dries quickly and the formula seems to work well with a range of other polishes. Which is great for mixing base colors with sparkly colors. And with the prices as low as they are you can afford to pick up a few to match outfit or mood.

The brush is a little thin but for a dollar and some change invest in a nail brush from a beauty supply store.

The pigmentation in Petites was also impressive. I was able to achieve the color I wanted on my nails in two coats. This was actually one of the more impressive features for me because I have purchased brands that cost 7 to 15 dollars a bottle and needed 4 coats to get the right saturation and still chipped and peeled with a great base coat and top coat.

In conclusion I would have to rank this polish 4.5 stars out of 5 just because the brush was so dinky.

So in a surprise from the drugstore dash these tiny bottles have become some of my favorite polishes and I would recommend them for any Dimestore Diva struggling in this economy.
