Review of Physician's Formula Organic Wear Make-Up

CVS just had a sale on Physician's Formula Organic Wear make-up. The deal was buy one; get one at 50% off. I'm always curious about new organic products, so I decided to buy two items and test them out.

Physician's Formula Organic Wear is certified organic by a company called EcoCert. EcoCert is an independent organization which certifies products as organic by conducting tests and inspections to ensure organic integrity.

Many cosmetics manufacturers display the EcoCert label on their products, including the line CARE, by Stella McCartney. According to the website NOTCOT.org, CARE is "a unique luxury line of certified organic skincare, formulated with 100 percent organic active ingredients and zero percent petrochemicals or silicones." The brand Nature's Gate also uses EcoCert certified organic ingredients in their products.

The first Physician's Formula make-up item I chose was the "100% Natural Origin Tinted Moisturizer" in the color Light to Natural (color #2156). The price was $11.99 (it was only $6 after the sale price was applied). It has an SPF of 15, so you can wear just this one product and be protected from the sun. I thought the consistency was too thin and there was not enough coverage.

For my daily routine, I use an oil-free moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15 first, and then I use L'Oreal Visible Lift Extra Coverage Line Minimizing Makeup with an SPF of 17. The organic tinted moisturizer couldn't substitute for my L'Oreal foundation unless my skin was absolutely perfect that day and I had a tan. I also have freckles and like to cover them up.

Physician's Formula Organic Wear moisturizer is good for teenagers who have almost perfect skin or women who don't wear a foundation like my L'Oreal Visible Lift Extra Coverage but who want a little bit of a tan look on their face. The second product I tried was called Physician's Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Pressed powder. The price of this item was $14.99. The color I chose was Creamy Natural (color #2137).

The last part of my make-up routine involves patting some pressed powder over the L'Oreal foundation to eliminate any shiny spots on my face. The packaging for this product was fancy and pretty. Instead of coming in a plastic round container, the pressed powder came in a sturdy cardboard container with light brown paper and the outline of green leaves on it.

But what's really important is the product itself. I give the pressed powder a thumb's up. I liked the coverage and the quality of the powder. It wasn't cakey or crumbly and it was easy to get the powder on the brush. The powder stayed on my face throughout the day and I didn't have to re-apply it.

I think organic make-up is becoming more and more popular. Don't be surprised to see other mainstream cosmetics companies that market their products in drugstores like CVS to come out with their own organic lines soon.
