Review of Pillsbury Sweet Moments Bite-Size Brownies

Eliza Wynn
Pillsbury Sweet Moments bite-size brownies are ready-to-eat desserts available in the refrigerated section of the supermarket. A package of these small desserts weighs 5.6 ounces and costs $2.50 and $2.99 in my usual stores. Like the Sweet Moments molten lava brownies I also reviewed, these desserts are available in both chocolate fudge and chocolate caramel. I decided to try both kinds.

Pillsbury Sweet Moments Bite-Size Brownies: Presentation

These brownies come in a pouch that's easy to open but isn't resealable. After opening the package and removing a few brownie bites, I returned the pouch to the refrigerator, where it stayed for several days. I didn't notice any problems with the freshness, but I would have liked to be able to reseal the pouch.

The package of chocolate caramel contained 12 brownies, while the chocolate fudge contained only 11 brownies. In the interest of research, we bought another set and had the same experience. My curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to buy a third package of the chocolate fudge. Finally, I'd found one with 12 brownies.

These brownie bites vaguely resemble petits fours. There is a layer of filling between two layers of brownie, and these three layers are enrobed in a chocolate shell.

Pillsbury Sweet Moments Bite-Size Brownies: Taste

Judging from the image on the package, I expected these small brownies to be covered in milk chocolate. When I opened the pouch, I noticed that the chocolate coating is actually quite dark in appearance, so I was relieved to find that it tastes only slightly bitter. In fact, the coating doesn't have much flavor at all. I prefer to eat the chocolate shell off first so that I can enjoy the brownie and filling together without any interference from the bland coating.

My husband and I both preferred the chocolate fudge variety. The chocolate caramel wasn't bad, but we couldn't really taste the caramel.

If you're looking for a bite of something sweet, these might do the trick. Although the recommended serving is three brownie bites, this seems unnecessary; we're satisfied with one or two.

Pillsbury Sweet Moments Bite-Size Brownies: Nutritional Information

Each bite-size brownie contains 60 calories, but the manufacturer bases the nutritional information on a serving size of three brownie bites. Therefore, a serving contains 180 calories, 80 of which are from fat. Three chocolate fudge brownies contain 9g total fat, with 4.5g being saturated; they also have 2g protein. A serving of three chocolate caramel brownies contains 9g total fat, 4g saturated fat, and 1g protein. Both varieties contain 15mg cholesterol, 25g total carbohydrates, and less than 1g fiber. Although no trans fat is specified, these products contain partially hydrogenated palm kernel oil.

Those with food allergies and sensitivities should note that this product contains wheat, egg, dairy, corn, and soy ingredients. The packaging also indicates the possibility of walnut and sunflower ingredients.

Thanks for the review! I just noticed these in the store two nights ago near the refrigerated cookie dough, but resisted temptation. Maybe I will try them after all.
