Many people come from miles around and from around the world to attend Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. PSU is not, however, a single college, but 4 colleges grouped together to form a singular college campus. PSU and the city of Pittsburg have something to offer everyone, from a wide variety of classes and clubs on campus to a wide variety of restaurants and stores off and on campus.

Pittsburg is what is referred to as a college town, with everything in the city revolving around the college itself. Many of the businesses in town even offer current students of the college discounts and special deals when they show their school IDs.

The Gorilla Card

The School ID, or Gorilla Card, itself is the students link to a special college student checking account that automatically receives any refunds that students receive from financial aid. This is offered through the colleges partnership with the local Commerce Bank. Along with this, the card also contains what are called "Banana Bucks" which can be used on campus to pay for things such as print-offs in the college library.

Colleges

As previously stated, PSU is made up of 4 individual colleges that offer anything and everything a prospective student could want to study.

* College of Arts and Sciences

This college offers more than 50 different degree programs that span anything from medicine to T.V. to interior design and even several of the teaching degrees start off at the college such as French, English, or Spanish teachers. These however, are only the tip of the iceberg offered from this college with the more than 50 degrees to choose from.

* Kelce College of Business

For those people wishing to work the 9 to 5 shift or consider themselves to be computer nerds, this college may be the choice for you. With several options, the true business types can easily find what they are looking for. A large plus, the college is accredited by the AACSB, the International Association for Management Education. This accreditation is very important to business owners world wide and also helps to enhance the reputation of the college itself.

* College of Education

For those aspiring to be a psychologist, maybe a recreational therapist, or maybe even an elementary education teacher, among other things, this college is the choice location. Offering countless degrees for education and such, this college is the perfect place for anyone interested in people, young and old, in general. As well, most specialized education programs offered by the other colleges on campus end their college careers at this college.

* College of Technology

The 4th and definitely not the least of the colleges, based in the state-of-the-art, nationally acclaimed Kansas Technology Center. This college offers students degree options dealing with anything and everything technological. From automotive to construction, the technologically savvy student will find what they want in this college. With the education offered at this college, past students have shown a much higher job placement percentage.

Nightlife hotspots

Though most students will be busy with homework, college/club activities, and studying for exams (sure), there are several opportunities to get out at night and have some fun. In Pittsburg there are a few local places to hang out late at night. With the availability of 3 bar and grills in town, the student can easily find a place to hang out. 505 is a quite popular hangout spot for students and non-students alike. JB's Sports Bar and Grill, along with offering a hangout spot also offers live bands at times and several televisions showing all the sports you love. 5th Street Bar, although small, is a nice hangout for those who dislike the more crowded alternatives.For those who are looking for a more active nightlife, a quick jaunt to the nearby city of Joplin, MO offers several different clubs to check out.

Finally, top 5 reasons to choose PSU?

NUMBER 1:

The gorilla!!! Of all of the colleges in the nation, PSU is the only one that has the gorilla as its mascot.
