As a self proclaimed grillmaster, I hated purchasing this for him as I strictly oppose puncturing meat during the grilling process. After getting it for him and seeing it in action I have not changed my mind about being opposed to puncturing meat as it grills, but if you must have one of these forks and grill thermometer combinations the Polder Deluxe Smart Fork With Timer is probably one of your better choices. Not only does it show the current temperature of the meat you are cooking but it will show you the target temperature you are seeking to get it up to for your grilling to be completed. You can also adjust this setting for the type of meat that you are cooking.
This is better than some of the other turning fork/thermometer combinations on the market. Many of them will let you choose the type of meat you are grilling, but make no other adjustments. At least with the Polder Deluxe Smart Fork With Timer you can select the type of meat you are grilling, as well as the degree of doneness you require.
It doesn't just tell you the temperature, the Polder Deluxe Smart Fork With Timer has a timer feature on it. I figure if you are going to puncture your meat risking the juices leaking out, at least by setting the timer until the meat is almost done it will limit the dame that you do by puncturing the meat with the Polder Deluxe Smart Fork with Timer.
Clean up is very easy with the Polder Deluxe Smart Fork With Timer as it has detachable tines. This is a crucial feature as too many of these turning fork/ thermometers on the market do not come apart and run the risk of being ruined when water gets within the unit itself.
I'm not going to say that I recommend purchasing a turning fork/ thermometer in one, but if you are going to do it then the Polder Deluxe Smart Fork With Timer is probably one of your best options. The temperature displayed did appear to be rather accurate, the timer is a nice feature, and the removable tines are a key to making it worth the $20 if you want to purchase a turning fork/ thermometer combination to make your grilling more convenient.
