I recently rediscovered Cranberry Almond Crunch, formerly known as Cranberry Morning. It is now part of the Great Grains line, which seems odd to me, since it fit perfectly in the Selects line with Blueberry Morning, Banana Nut Crunch, and Maple Pecan Crunch. However, the website states that Great Grains cereals contain more simple ingredients and are less processed than other cereals, so this is probably the reason for the change.
Composition
The flakes are all different sizes; some are quite small while others are huge. They're fairly hard and stand up well to milk; this cereal doesn't get soggy as fast as most others I've tried. The clusters break apart easily, which is preferable to hard clusters that threaten to break teeth and dislodge fillings.
The dried cranberries are somewhat bitter if eaten by themselves, but they go well with the rest of the ingredients. From what I've seen, there are plenty of cranberries in the box but not nearly as many almond slivers.
Serving Suggestions
I can eat Cranberry Almond Crunch dry out of the box or in a bowl with a little milk. I prefer Ocean Spray Craisins to the dried cranberries included in this cereal. I also prefer whole roasted almonds to slivers. Since I happened to have both on hand, I added them to a bowl.
Having two different types of dried cranberries as well as two different forms of almonds made this delicious cereal even better. I won't add them every time, but I'll do it occasionally for variety.
Nutrition
One serving of this cereal is 3/4 cup. Each dry serving contains 200 calories, 30 of which are from fat. There is 1g polyunsaturated fat and 1.5g monounsaturated fat; there is no saturated fat or cholesterol in this cereal. It contains 130mg sodium and 4g protein. The carbohydrate content is rather high at 40g, with 4g fiber, 13g sugars, and 23g other carbohydrates. It is a heart-healthy cereal that provides 26g of whole grain per serving.
Whole grain wheat is the main ingredient in this cereal. Other ingredients include cranberries, rice, oats, almonds, sugar, brown sugar, barley flour, and whey. There is no soy or high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), but it does contain regular corn syrup.
