Review of Pringles Select Chips

Sulli
When you think of the Pringles potato chips we all love, you think of them coming in a tall cardboard canister with a plastic lid, all perfectly stacked inside it, all looking the exact same. Now you have another choice when it comes to Pringles potato chips and they are called Pringles Select. These new potato chips come in a bag in the new gourmet flavors that everyone is craving. These new types of Pringles first started hitting store shelves at the end of 2006.

Pringles Select comes in four different flavors, which are not available in the original Pringles stacks. They are Parmesan Garlic, Sun Dried Tomato, Szechaun Barbeque, and Cinnamon Sweet Potato. The Pringle Select is a bit different from the original. They are a smaller chip, and more of a circular shape instead of oval. In place of being smooth and arched up in the middle, the new chops are bubblier and flatter. Pringles Select is crunchier as well. According to the Pringles website, they use rich cheeses, vine ripened tomatoes, and whole grains to make these new chips have their sophisticated flavors. The flavors are about the same robustness. They are not over powering, but not so slight that you can't taste them either. I would say though, that of the four flavors they do have in Pringles Selects, some of the other chips on the market with similar flavors do taste better. Most potato chips in the market with these similar flavors are kettle chips. The Selects are slightly healthier than the original Pringles as well, containing 8-9 grams of fat preserving compared to 10-11 grams, respectively.

Pringles Select is available in two sized bags, 5.5 and 8 ounces. Considering how small these bags are compared to other bags of chips, these seemed to be priced kind of high. Most stores I have seem these bags on shelves at, are priced well above the $2.00 mark. The whole niche in the market that Pringles is so well known for is that their chips are always protected by the canister, helping to prevent them form breaking. Now that they have a potato chip product in a bag, that makes them no different than any of the other choices on the market. I think the idea was nice, but not well thought out. I think Pringles should stick with what they know, and just continue making chips and stack.

Great review. Pringles are definitely one of my family's favorite chips, but I didn't know they made this variety.
