Taste
When confronted with options of bagels, cereal, and French toast sticks, our kids opted for us to make the French toast sticks on the second day of our vacation. The hot out of the oven French toast sticks sent a delicate cinnamon aroma throughout our villa and appeared even more pleasing to the eyes. The fairly sizable French toast sticks had a golden brown finish with an adequate healthy dusting of cinnamon sugar. I served up the sticks with a pool of maple syrup (not that it was needed) and everyone dug in. The taste was heavenly and comparable if not better than the Market Day brand French toast sticks. I was very pleased with how tasty and even more impressed how crispy the baked sticks turned out. Unfortunately the three kids consumed the lion share of our entire supply while my wife and I only were only left with two sticks a piece and had to settle for a bagel to complete our breakfast.
Quantity
The Publix Cinnamon toast sticks are sold in a twenty ounce box of which there is about twenty two decent size French toast sticks. The manufacturer touts one should get five servings out of this box. I think that five servings of this breakfast is a bit of a stretch. My three children all under the ages of nine consumed about eighteen of these sticks without hesitation. I would recommend purchasing a few boxes for the freezer; especially if adults are going to be eating these as well.
Price
The box of Publix brand French toast sticks set us back about $3.99. I think the price seems kind of high for something I occasionally see sold at home for about two and a half dollars, though the quantity is also a bit smaller. In comparison to other brands such as Market day, the price difference is negligible. . Compared to French toast sticks purchased whether Meijer brand or at a warehouse club, Publix brand is expensive. If I lived in the south or had access to Publix all year around I would simply wait for the sale and stock up the freezer.
Overall Opinion I have tasted French toast sticks from a number of companies and restaurants and find the Publix brand to be one of the best I have tasted so far. The manufacturer recommends different methods to prepare the French toast sticks whether using the oven, pan frying, or microwaving. I would never recommend microwaving a French toast stick due to the inevitable limp and lifeless soggy stick that will be the result.
