Review of the RCA RT2770 1000 Watt Home Theater System

Wal-Mart's Budget Home Theather Stirs Mixed Feelings

John Ehle
If you're like most Wal-Mart shoppers, you have made your way over to the electronics section of the store to check out the latest offerings the store has on display. Wal-Mart offers a good selection of home theater systems to match most budgets and needs. Dolby Digital 5.1 systems have become an industry standard audio format for movies made today. If you want to enjoy the theater experience in your home, then having a good sounding audio system is paramount.

The allure of The RCA RT2770 1000 Watt Home Theater System to me was the low price tag and the black standard case with cool blue lighting that would blend in well with the other components used in my home theater system. While The RCA RT2770 1000 Watt Home Theater System does not offer a long list of features and options other name brand systems offer, it is simple and straight forward when it comes to operation.

Setting up The RCA RT2770 1000 Watt Home Theater System was a pretty simple affair with decent instructions and explanations of operation. Unfortunately this system does not come equipped with any HDMI connections but as alternative it does offer a fiber optic digital input for the best possible signal. There are plenty of analog inputs for my needs but for people with a lot of entertainment components to hook up, you may want to consider a different system on that factor alone.

One of the neatest features of The RCA RT2770 1000 Watt Home Theater System is the USB connection to allow you to play your MP3's as well as your Windows Media audio files. A few of my biggest gripes would be the clutter button remote control and subwoofer performance. The RCA RT2770 1000 Watt Home Theater System power rating seems to be overinflated to say the least. You cannot perform certain functions on the system without using the remote control very easily and some functions without it at all. The subwoofer is terribly underpowered mainly due to the pact that it is not self powered and the built in digital amplifiers simply cannot produce enough power to produce enough low end grunt for me. You can however, buy a separate powered subwoofer to compensate but you can easily spend more money on that component by itself.

The sound quality isn't bad but doesn't provide the detail and depth comparable Sony Home Theater Systems can produce. For the money I would say that The RCA RT2770 1000 Watt Home Theater System is a good value for the money but do not expect high grade features and performance from this product. I would recommend this product for those who are breaking into the home theater scene and I believe it would compliment many of the affordable HDTV's Wal-Mart has to offer.
