Review and Recap of "The Colony" - Season 2 Premier Episode 1
This Season of the Colony Starts Off Action Packed
The Colony - Day 1 Water and Fire
After their 72 hours of isolation the colonists were flown in a helicopter, by the fictitious government agency VOPA (Virus Outbreak Protection Agency) to a colony where they were instructed to wait for fifty days. George a 46 year old installation artist was looking for an authority figure to tell them what to do when they arrived, apparently he did not see Season one of The Colony. Welcome to The Colony George you are not in Los Angeles anymore, you are in Louisiana.
The colonists soon found a tent marked by VOPA with a bunch of supplies. They decided to move their supplies to a building rather than staying in a tent. This is the most intelligent security decision they made this episode and that is not saying much. The colonists moved in to a dilapidated two story house with beans all over the floor. One of the colonists who had a hand in deciding on the location was Robert Deville a 70 year old retired contractor, who only feels 69. Robert says that he can contribute more than anyone else. Only the following weeks will tell.
Once their home was established, they decided to work on finding water. Surprise! Resident geology professor Sian Proctor knew just how to make a water filtration system by layering charcoal and sand. Once that was together they were able to jump start a fire using a battery, so that they could boil their newly purified water.
After the colonists finished up dinner, they put cots in their house and went to sleep. They didn't establish a security rounds system, at least not one that was disclosed. They actually made it through night one without any incidents.
Day one they were three for five of the necessary parts of survival, they had managed to find shelter, fire and food and water. Unfortunately, they have not considered security yet.
The Colony - Day 2 Gone Fishing
The next morning Professor Sian made an activity list to try to organize the chores. Everyone by day two wanted fish really bad, so they sent two of the colonists off to try to catch some. After a few extremely pitiful attempts the colonists returned empty handed. With this wasted time I am starting to question if anyone watched season one. Day two and they've gone fishing yet they haven't established any form of security.
As part of the experiment three strangers or as one of the colonists decided three ratty looking people were introduced to the colony.
Jim Carpenter, a man of God, wanted to give them two cartons of milk. The strangers took the milk but they wanted more food, and told one of our most useful colonists Becka the 22 year old model to "Shut up Little Girl" when she explained they didn't have enough food to share. Reno Ministrelli, who was mad his little supermodel was being picked on immediately jumped in and pushed the ring leader of the intruders. There was a bit of a scuffle and The Colonists sent the strangers packing. We have a bunch of brawlers on our hands this season!
Unfortunately, because they Reno and Jim touched the strangers they have to be quarantined. After twelve hours spent in the VOPA tents in solitary, they took their temperatures and checked them for rashes. The two were deemed able to return to the colony life. After a long day the colonists hit the hay again without a security watch program.
Night two was not as quiet as night one though. In the middle of the night, they were waked by the rain. They have picked perhaps the biggest dump on the block and all the holes in their roof and what they collected outside gained them 90 gallons of water.
The Colony - Day 3 There are intruders a plenty.
Day three of the colony arrives, and along with it a boatload of trouble. First the colonists find a snake in their house, and they bludgeon the poor thing to death in a horrible fashion. Apparently, Geologist Instructors aren't required to take Zoology classes because Sian declared the snake as deadly. They left the snake to die in the sun, and in my opinion they let a potentially decent meal go.
George the artist and Robert the retiree, soon left on a solo mission to scavenge. I wonder if the other colonists were hoping to lose them because they sent out the slacker, with the oldest colonists to roam the streets unarmed. The first things they found were a razor and a Bible. George attempts to bust the lock off of an unlocked meat truck which they opened to find two maggot ridden rotten pigs.
George who apparently can't carry a battery and Robert fly back to camp to recruit more colony members to help them carry back the supplies. When they return to the truck though they find the batteries they came back for are already gone. They brave the pig cadaver case and they locate some salami. Jim who originally thought dead pigs would make decent fish bait, loses his lunch when he climbs in the failed cooler. Soon they see some other people wandering about and high tail it back to camp.
George Willis the industrial artist, a complete slacker now decides that he is going to take a nap. As if he wasn't useless enough already, he asks the other colonists to wake him when dinner is ready.
I think George thought that he was going on vacation. George if you wanted a welcome wagon, lounge chairs, naps and dinner at five maybe you should have went to the Bahamas instead!
Soon after dinner, a gang comes along lead by the scruffy guy they gave the milk to. The gang demanded the medical supplies. At the first sign of resistance The Colonists were pepper sprayed, and a blind fist fight broke out.
If you did not see this episode it is definitely worth watching the reruns for the sake of seeing this fight. The actors who were instructed to steal the supplies really put the beating on our Novice Colonists. Blood and tears were drawn. It was an extremely intense moment for a first episode and it will be exciting to see what the rest of the season will bring.
The end of the fight left the colonist's water supply completely dry, and most of their medical supplies were taken. Episode one did not disappoint, it was an exciting premier for season 2 of "The Colony." The new colonists were really challenged and it is only day three. Honestly watching the previews for upcoming episodes I will be surprised if someone doesn't get seriously hurt.
