Synopsis of the Children's Science Book S is for Scientists: A Discovery Alphabet
Each letter of the alphabet conveys a scientific principle that led to a breakthrough discovery, discoveries which have impacted our lives in various ways including medical and safety. Letters are introduced through a rhyming poem and are accompanied by fact-based paragraphs explaining the lettered concepts such as "a" for Adapt, "c" for Compare, "g" for Gather, "p" for Prove, "t" for Tag, etc. Some letters of the alphabet get two full pages to feature the scientific concept. Readers will learn how the dwarf planet Pluto was discovered in 1930 and get insight into how British software engineer Tim Berners-Lee helped bring along the World Wide Web as well as learn about where the first microwave popcorn came from. At the end of this children's alphabet and science book are four experiments kids can do at home based on the material covered.
I strongly recommend this children's science book for kids because of the catchy poetry and informative fact-based paragraphs authored by Larry Verstraete which is engaging reading for 6-10 year olds, who the book is targeted for. The illustrations by David Geister are well-done and colorful, and assist in making scientific-related breakthrough history come alive, especially through the large illustrations, as the 32 page book measures out to be about 10 3/8" high and 11 1/8" wide.
This children's science book is available at retail outlets like Amazon.com, and its Suggested Retail Price is $16.95. The ISBN Number for S is for Scientists: A Discovery Alphabet is 1-58536-470-3.
