This is a review of the new release John Deere-themed children's DVD Fun on the Farm. It comes from TM Books & Video. I was provided a review copy of this video, but was under no obligation to recommend Fun on the Farm. My observations are my own.

Synopsis

An animated rooster named Doodle takes viewers on a fast-paced journey about the general aspects of what goes on at a farm and how farms are important for such things as the food at grocery stores and being the origins for pizza ingredients. There are several short vignettes that feature an intermittent game (with a cow named Bell) of spotting farm animals in the clouds. Since this is a John Deere-themed children's DVD, many tractors by this iconic company are featured, including old ones like the Waterloo Boy and Model D as well as some modern tractors that have 12 wheels and comfortable cabins. The accessories to tractors like hay balers, plows, and cultivators get adequate attention, too, and their uses are actively demonstrated. The video scenes are done in the spirit of music videos where songs like "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" and "You Are My Sunshine" are sung where images run across the screen, including that of various farm animals like chicks, cows, pigs, horses, etc. plus other scenes going on at farms like children helping out with the chores.

Even a visit to the city of Chicago is shown, for in this vicinity is a place called "Farm in the Zoo" at Lincoln Park, where city kids learn about farm animals and the products grown so they can appreciate more the role of agriculture in their lives, even if they've never had any exposure to farm life. Another visit is made to a combine factory.

More about the John Deere-Themed Children's DVD Fun on the Farm

I do recommend this video for the targeted audience of 2-6 year olds (according to the DVD case), especially city kids, because children who are raised in urban environments often take for granted where they get their food from. The pace of this children's DVD will keep their minds engaged for the 35 minutes of running time. Fun on the Farm can be purchased from the TM Books & Video website or via retail outlets like Amazon.com.
