Review of Repelle Skin Shield Wand

I have been coloring my hair since about the age of 14. It's rather addicting to discover a new you, in a new shade of color or just refresh your natural beauty. I've never used any protestant products for my hair line or neck, as I knew I could always get the hair coloring off with rubbing alcohol or bleach, all depending how deeply it was stained. As usual with just about anything I review, I got a sample of the product in the mail after completing a brief survey. It was a few weeks before I would color my hair, so I had time to read all about Repelle Skin Shield Wand, and its promises.

Repelle is a skin shield wand much like a lipstick that is meant to protect your skin from hair color stains. Repelle is for all skin types; it contains Aloe and Vitamin E. Repelle claims to wash off easily, and prevents redness, and irritation due to hair coloring. It contains warnings to not get the product in your eyes, and to keep out of reach of children. I don't see how Repelle can possibly get into your eyes, but I guess those that color their eyelashes might think they want to use this product, and that would be indeed dangerous.

Repelle shows on the back to apply at the hairline, eyebrows and ears, and nape of your neck. The interesting thing about Repelle is it shows you to clearly do a line around your eyebrows. When most coloring products claim to not do your eyebrows. I've always colored my eyebrows using a Q-Tip to be sure of where the coloring is placed. I've never had a need to use anything to protect my skin around them or even have to clean up. Q-Tips are perfect for defining your eyebrows with hair coloring.

I was taught as a child, that Vaseline can be used to repel hair coloring stains, so it came as no surprise to me that Repelle felt exactly like Vaseline. I placed it along my hairline, and nape of neck, and around my ears, I felt doing it just once wasn't enough. It didn't rub on well at all. It took several HARD wipes back, and forth to even show up. Repelle Skin Shield Wand didn't feel at all like I expected. I though it would be like lipstick, rub it on, and you know it's on, but that wasn't the case. Be sure to avoid getting it on your hair though, because it will repel the hair color on those strands.

Rubbing on Repelle thick did a beautiful job, I had no stains what-so-ever anywhere that Repelle was placed. When I went to rinse my hair in the shower, I discovered, it wasn't coming off. I guess you could say because I placed the Repelle on thick instead of a thin strip, that was why it didn't rinse off as easy as it claimed. Not only that but after I had finished my hair coloring, and styling, I took a real look at Repelle. I pushed it up like a lipstick to see what was left. I had used half the tube for one hair coloring session! Considering Repelle cost about $4.99 at Walgreens, Vaseline is the better deal, and more useful.

Don't waste your money on the Repelle Skin Shield Wand, get Vaseline instead. I rate Repelle Skin Shield Wand 1 out of 5 stars.
