Johnny Rockets is a blast to the past. It whisks its patrons back to the days of drive up burger stands and carhops. The wait staff is complete with the 50s style Burger boy hats, and the tables feature tabletop jukeboxes to play your favorite classic tunes for the whopping price of $.05. But what else is this restaurant offer?

As with any burger joint, the favorite edible item on the list is a hamburger or cheeseburger if you prefer. The original comes with lettuce, tomato, chopped onions, relish, pickles, mustard, and mayonnaise. There are also those that like the #12, which has Tillamook cheddar cheese, lettuce, onion slice, pickle, mayonnaise, and Johnny Rockets signature tangy "red, red sauce". There are also other options such as the Route 66, which are grilled mushrooms and onions, Swiss cheese and mayonnaise on the burger. For different swing on the cheeseburger, one should try the Smoke House, which is a hamburger with Tillamook cheddar cheese, thick bacon, crispy onion rings, and the Smokehouse BBQ Ranch sauce. For those little more health-conscious there is the Turkey Single, which is a turkey burger. Other hits include the American Fries, Onion Rings, Half Rings/Half Fries, and the Chili Bowl, which is a bowl of all meat chili. The menu also includes many chicken items such as Chicken Tenders or a Chicken Club Sandwich. Some other traditional items on the menu include BLT, Chili Dogs, a Philly Cheesesteak and the Tuna Melt.

For vegan visitors, there is Grilled Cheese, the Streamliner, which is a 100% so a Boca Burger, as well as various salads on the menu.

As for the drink specialties, shakes, malts, and floats are the name of the game. The shakes and malts are available in the Hershey's chocolate shake, vanilla, strawberry, Oreo cookies & cream, strawberry banana, Butterfinger, chocolate peanut butter, Big Apple, and mocha fudge. The floats are available with your choice of ice cream is well it is your choice of soda pop.

Prices for this eatery range from $3-$12. Parking for Johnny Rockets is available in any of the mall entrances. All foods on the menu are available for takeout. The dress code at the restaurant is casual in the usual way time for a table for a party of four on a weekend night is usually 30 to 40 minutes. This restaurant does not take reservations.

Johnny Rockets is a kid friendly restaurant. There is a special kids menu which offers hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, and PB&J, just to name a few.

The restaurant is located in the Mall of America, at 370 South Blvd., Bloomington, Minnesota 55425. Their phone number is 952.858.8158. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, at 11 a.m. to 12 midnight Friday and Saturday.

This restaurant gives those that remained for the nostalgic days of the 50s a chance to go back, and for those that were not around the chance to learn, see, and the experience the old days of Americana.

The person who wrote this article should research what it means to be vegan. Grilled cheese? Really?
