Review of Revlon Matte Lipstick in "Strawberry Suede"

The Pen
One of the things that have inspired my style have been pin-ups and bombshells. I just love the way women dressed and looked during the 40s and 50s, the way they dressed and the way they did their makeup.

So when I saw an ad by Revlon for their new Matte Lipstick recently I knew the collection was for me and I had to try a tube. The ad features Beau Garrett in a fabulous shade of deep red lipstick. Her hair is all wavy like Veronica Lake and the ad reminds me of old Hollywood, which is exactly why I love lipstick in the first place.

You have no idea how excited I was to try this Matte Lipstick, because I really like how sophisticated and sexy matte finishes can look but most lipsticks today are creamy and moisturizing since those formulas are more wearable. So finding a matte lipstick in general is kind of difficult but it's even harder to find a good one. Most matte lipsticks are way too dry and difficult to apply evenly, and once you finally do, they make your lips feel dried out.

But the ad claimed that the matte color would "glide effortlessly across lips without ever drying, caking, or flaking," so I decided to try it. There were 10 shades to choose from, and at first I was going to go for a nude or brown color.

I've always wanted to try bright colors on my lips, but my lips are my biggest feature, I mean they are Angelina Jolie big, and I am usually too scared to play them up. But a couple of years ago when I saw that even Angelina had abandoned her favorite nude for a really bright coral lipstick one day, I vowed that one day I would be as bold. That day came in an Ulta store a couple of weeks ago when I came face to face with Revlon Matte Strawberry Suede.

The Strawberry Suede color isn't as red as an actual strawberry. To me it looks like a strawberry colored drink or candy. It's more coral and bright pink than red.

I usually like deep red lipsticks because they are more vampy, but spring is on it's way and I think that Strawberry Suede is more appropriate for warm weather and to wear during the day. I really like it because it reminds me of the lipstick that Angelina wore and it looks like a shade that a pin-up would wear.

When I tried it on at home, it took some getting used to, but I really like it now. This color suprisingly flatters my brown skin and it looks the same shade on me as it does in the tube. Even though it's a bright coral the matte finish tones it down so it still looks sophisticated, not tacky and overwhelming.

Besides the color I really liked that Revlon Matte told the truth in their ad. The lipstick does have a suede texture but it actually feels creamy as it goes on. After it was on it didn't dry out or start flaking or anything. My lips felt silky and light the whole time I wore it. It lasts a few hours as any other lipstick does but because Strawberry Suede is so bright when it wore off I looked like I had on a lip stain for hours afterward.

For me this lipstick is perfect. The matte finish looks velvety and rich, and I really liked how I only needed a couple of swipes of lipstick to get an even and intense shade of Strawberry Suede on my lips.

I love this lipstick and I will be buying more tubes soon. Even though the Strawberry Suede color is a little out of my comfort zone, I will be wearing it to add some color to my clothes this spring. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a fun, yet glam pink/color lipstick with a wonderful matte texture. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
