I decided to pick up Revlon Photo Ready foundation because I had been hearing a lot of raves about it. I heard that not only did it make your skin look amazing, but it had shades that were perfect for those with neutral undertones. I did some research and decided that the shade 003 Shell would be my best match. So, I headed to my local CVS. I paid the $12.99 and brought home my new treasure, hoping it was the answer to my seemingly endless foundation problem.
Revlon Photo Ready comes packaged in a 1 oz. bottle with a pump dispenser. The first thing I noticed when I tried the product is that I really love the pump. One long pump squirts out the perfect amount to do my entire face. I love this because I don't have to re-pump with a dirty hand and get my foundation bottle dirty. I am a little over obsessive when it comes to keeping my make up clean. It also does not squirt violently from the pump like a lot of pump dispensed products tend to do.
I applied the foundation using my fingers and it melted perfectly onto my skin. The formula was not too thick, and not too thin. It took a little longer to blend out in the creases of the nose and around the upper lip, but the color match was seemingly perfect. It wasn't pink or yellow and it disappeared into my face. The coverage looked very even and my skin looked glowy. Though it did not cover all of my blemishes completely, I was pleasantly surprised and happy with the result. I had finally found a foundation that matched my skin.
The other shoe dropped when I went outside. I was on my way to dinner and checked my make up in the mirror in the car. (Don't worry, I wasn't driving!) I literally gasped at my reflection. My face was glittering like a diamond in the sun. Now, I normally do not mind being sparkly, but the dinner I was headed to was not exactly glitter friendly. I felt pretty self conscious at that point. Luckily, indoors, the sparkle was not as noticeable and no one asked why I was dressed up like Edward Cullen.
When I got home I caught my reflection in the bathroom mirror while washing my hands. My foundation was still in tact but I noticed what looked like a large patch of dry skin on my chin. I never even knew I had dry skin. This foundation seemed to emphasize the dry patches that weren't normally noticeable. Bummer.
Though the results weren't 100% positive, this foundation is really growing on me. I've been using it daily for 2 weeks now and have not had a break out. That is a huge plus for me because most foundations I've used didn't agree with my skin.
I've also played around with it a bit and have figured out ways to make it better. I discovered that setting the foundation with a loose powder after applying, significantly reduces the sparkle level and makes it daytime friendly. As far as the dry skin issue, I have noticed it less and less. This is probably due to the fact that I exfoliated like crazy after realizing I had dry patches on my face. That seems to have nipped that problem in the bud.
I recommend this foundation if you have neutral undertones, oily skin, or acne prone skin. It is a lovely light-medium coverage foundation that makes your skin look even and polished and wears all day.
