Review of Ryan's Restaurant in Austin, Texas

Ryan's restaurants are famous across the country for their all you can eat buffet. In my experience, they are the best all you can eat buffet chain around. Shoney's, which also offers buffets for their customers, is nothing compared to Ryan's.

However, it was with some trepidation that I first visited the Ryan's in Austin. Reviews I had read online said that it was not a very good Ryan's. Once I got there, though, I realized that I needn't have worried. Yes, the honey buns were a bit greasier than normal (but still delicious.) The salmon was a bit on the dry side. But other than that, the food was simply exquisite.

The salad bar, for example, was perfect. It has the widest variety of fruits, vegetables and other assorted toppings that I have seen at a Ryan's, including raisins (which are a must for me on salads), something I had never seen at a Ryan's before. All the vegetables were crisp and fresh, making for excellent salads.

As for the rest of the food, it was quite good. I was especially fond of the Bourbon chicken (a delight I have been only able to find at the Ryan's Restaurant in Austin.) They also have an excellent taco bar, plenty of barbeque, mashed potatoes, fried okra, green beans, and a whole lot more.

For the price, one especially has to consider Ryan's worth it. The lunch buffet is only $6.59, not much more than you'd pay for a burger and fries at McDonald's or Burger King. After 4:00 the price gets a bit steeper, going up to $8.99.

Although the prices are different for the lunch and dinner buffets, don't be fooled: the food is exactly the same. If you are planning on a meal, I suggest lunch as you will get the same food but at a cheaper price.

All in all, if you have been to Ryan's before, you will know what to expect when you come to the Ryan's in Austin. It has the best salad bar I have seen in any Ryan's, which is definitely a plus. It might not look as nice as some other Ryan's (the Ryan's in Waco, for example, is better designed and more attractive), they still know how to offer you up some good food.

The Ryan's in Austin is located on the corner of Parmer Lane and Metric Boulevard. It is built a bit away from the road so you might find you have a little trouble seeing it, but once you've found it it's easy to get to. For a great buffet in Austin, look no further than Ryan's.

The manager guy who comes in there once a week is the biggest jerk I've ever seen. He followed the waitresses around, smirking and talking down to them, yelling even. He's a great big guy, not hard to recognize. If you see him in there, just watch how he acts, see for yourself.
