After a while, we decided to toss the first monitor and invest in a second one. The one we chose was Safety 1st''s High-Def Digital Monitor. The box assured us that we wouldn't have any outside interference and we believed them.
I'm glad we did! The connection is flawless, each and every day, no matter what the time. There is never any static, no other sounds except for the quietness of sleep or the rush of noise when the children wake. I can see my neighbors on their phones, and actually hear my baby's breathing at the same time. This monitor is cordless so it's easily portable, making laundry a snap and lugging things in from the car much easier. The monitor can be hand-held, propped or strapped to your belt loop for added convenience.
If you need to plug it into an electrical outlet when the battery dies, it's also easily done. It also features a low battery light so you won't end up in this predicament in the first place.
The monitor itself has a small light attached so middle of the night feedings are more simple as well because you're able to see so much more. The monitor is quiet when near it's source, which typically is not the case with baby monitors. Usually, placing the handset near the base will cause the machine to make an earth shattering, annoying noise, but not the Safety 1ist High-Def Monitor.
The monitor we have is plain white, which is perfect. It's not an eyesore; it's quite slim and sits easily on the changing table, barely noticeable. I love that it's not bulky or obvious, I like my nursery to look clean and tidy without excess clutter hanging around and this monitor fits right in.
If you misplace the handset, you can simply page it from the base and the sound will continue until you either find the handset or press the button on the base again, so there's no running all around the house looking for the monitor and having to start over when the beeping stops automatically.
Overall, we could not be more pleased. The most important feature is that it has literally no interference, but the style, ease of use and functionality make this baby monitor a must for new parents.
