Review: Sambucus Elderberry, Echinacea and Propolis for Kids (Berry Flavored)

An Elderberry Syrup that Tastes Great and Offers Echinacea to Kids

In addition to reviewing natural foods I like to take the opportunity to review natural remedies. I am very happy to try natural remedies and one that I have had a ton of success with is elderberry syrup for coughs. With the exception of the occasional cough drop I almost never purchase a cough suppressant. My thought is that if your body is coughing it is probably doing it for a reason, such as clearing your lungs from gunk that has accumulated due to an illness. I have frequently used Sambucus Elderberry Syrup and decided to try Sambucus Elderberry, Echinacea and Propolis for Kids Berry Flavored for my son.

Echinacea is something that I take when I am trying to boost my immune system or when I am sick but since I have never seen it in chewable form it is not something that I am able to give to my son when he is sick. With this in mind I was very excited to have found a syrup that included both elderberries and echinacea. Thankfully my son did not have to use this product often and it actually lasted us through several different coughs of his that spanned over at least a year. I even tried it myself, just so that I could get a feel for what it taste like and to see if it helped me with a cough that I had. The product definitely aids in someone getting over a cough.

The Sambucus Elderberry, Echinacea and Propolis for Kids Berry Flavored contained four fluid ounces, or about 24 teaspoons. Depending on the age of the child that you are giving this elderberry syrup to and the how intense his or her cough is the elderberry syrup can last for 12 to 24 uses. For children who are at least one years old and no more than six years old, one teaspoon is given daily. If intensive use is necessary, which may be the case if the cough is severe, then for this same age group one to two teaspoons are needed twice a day. For the next age group, anyone who is at least seven years old or no older than twelve years old, two teaspoons are taken daily as a daily maintenance. For intensive use of this age group two to three teaspoons of the elderberry syrup are taken twice a day. My son is only four years old, so he falls into the category that requires less teaspoons of elderberry syrup. This be the case it helped the elderberry syrup last longer.

My son enjoyed the taste of the Sambucus Elderberry, Echinacea and Propolis for Kids Berry Flavored more than he has enjoyed any other elderberry syrups before. This made giving him his "medicine" very easy. I thought that the flavor was nice, I do not really care for the taste of traditional cough medicine but I found this to be fine. I also saw improvements in my son's coughs after starting to use the syrup, which made getting over them a lot easier for him. The bottle was just over five dollars in the alternative medicine section of our local health food store, and I noticed that you could find it on Amazon for about eight dollars. It also comes in a larger size which is a little cheaper per ounce. Currently we are out of this particular item but if my son gets a cough I intend on getting it right away. With the success we have had with it, and elderberry syrups in general, I feel that it is worth he money to get. I would recommend it to anyone with children.
