Review: Schwan's Special Recipe Pepperoni Pizza

Julie Lind
I am a big fan of pepperoni pizza. My family teases me because I crave pizza almost every day. So when I had the opportunity to order Schwan's Special Recipe Pepperoni Pizza I was more than happy to give it a try.

Schwan's is a home delivery service based out of Marshall, Minnesota. Once you are a customer of Schwan's their famous Schwan's food trucks filled with over 350 products stops by your house every two weeks. They are best known for their delicious ice cream.

Schwan's sells a variety of different styles of pizza from thin crust to thick, small to large. But it appears that their most popular pizzas are their Special Recipe Pepperoni Pizzas. On the Schwans website 96% of the reviewers would recommend Schwan's Special Recipe Pepperoni Pizzas to their friends.

Schwan's Special Recipe Pepperoni Pizza is a 10.5" thin crust pizza with sliced pepperoni, real mozzarella and cheddar cheeses.

Personally I would classify the Schwan's Special Recipe Pepperoni pizza as being a basic thin crust pizza. But it has become a classic pizza with Schwan's customers. According to the reviews on the Schwan's website, many of Schwan's customers have been buying these pizzas since they were kids.

And I can see why. Even though these pizzas are simple, they are delicious. The quality of all of the ingredients is excellent. The crust is crispy, and the sauce is one of the best pizza sauces I have tasted. The pepperoni is plentiful (I counted thirteen) with excellent flavor. The combination of the mozzarella and cheddar cheese makes for a tasty blend of cheeses.

The only negative thing about these pizzas is the small size. Even though the box says there are three servings, I would have to say it is more like two servings. It is the perfect size for lunch for my daughter and I to enjoy. But I would never be able to serve it for supper and expect it to feed three adults.

When making the Special Recipe Pepperoni pizzas you have two choices: Crisp Crust or Extra Crispy Crust.

For a Crisp crust: Preheat your oven and a baking sheet to 425 degrees. Remove the wrapper from the pizza and place the pizza on the preheated baking sheet in the center of the oven. Bake for twelve to fourteen minutes.

For an extra crispy crust: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Remove the pizza from the wrapper and place the pizza directly on the oven rack in the center of the oven. Bake for twelve to fourteen minutes.

Overall I highly recommend Schwan's Special Recipe Pepperoni Pizza as long as you only need to feed one or two people. It makes a tasty lunch or a quick snack. The pizzas sell for $4.99. If you buy three Special Recipe Pizzas you save $2.50. There is a $1 delivery fee added to all deliveries.

Ever since trying these pizzas I always make sure my freezer is well stocked with these delicious pizzas. The Special Recipe pizzas may be ordered through the Schwans website, or by calling them at 1-888-Schwans. The item number for the Special Recipe Pepperoni Pizza is #607.

Other varieties of Schwan's Special Recipe Pizzas include Sausage and Pepperoni, Supreme, Canadian Bacon, Sausage, Four Cheese, and Mexican Style.
