Review: Scott Baio is 45 and Single

In VH1's Scott Baio is 45 and Single, Baio seeks out the help of the sharp and effective life coach, Doc Ali, to find out why he can't commit. With his cronies, Jason Hervey (the big brother on Wonder Years), Steve, and the coattails-riding Johnny V by his side, Baio goes on an adventure that ends up having even the biggest skeptic believe he can be a one-woman man. His girlfriend Renee makes it clear Baio needs to make a decision about where their relationship is going.

Through the course of the seven episode series, Doc Ali guides Baio through a series of exercises, some in self-control, others in self-examination. Whether it is vowing to be celibate during the eight weeks of Doc Ali's program or approaching his exes to see where he went wrong, VH1 includes the viewer every step of the way.

Baio is not without obstacles. He has his wanna-be casanova friend, Johnny V., who sees clearly that if Baio gives up his player ways it will have a detrimental effect on the booty benefits of being Baio's wingman. Some may question whether Johnny V. even has a place of his own since he's basically a glorified squatter in Baio's guest room. On the other hand, there's his girlfriend Renee's daughter, a smart and seemingly down-to-earth teen visiting from Tennessee who asks Scott some telling questions. She leaves Baio with a hug and a warning not to hurt her mother.

For a man who has a swarm of fans in every generation of television watching women in America, Baio often comes across as insecure. Why? The majority of feedback given by most of his exes about why he can't be monogamous boils down to him always looking for the "next best thing". If Baio was confident in who he was and what he's all about, he'd also be confident in his choice of woman. In the end, Baio realizes that he's not getting any younger and that he needs to step up to the plate, for himself and for his girlfriend.

But will he get engaged? Will he find out that he's in for more than he bargained for? This surprisingly entertaining show gives us a glimpse into the life of Scott Baio, star of such shows as Happy Days and Charles in Charge. If you're not a fan of Baio already, you will be after watching one of the newest installments to VH1's Celebreality family. Watch Scott Baio is 45 and Single reruns on VH1.
