Great Tasting Mexican Food

Sergeant Garcia Mexican restaurant on Austin Street in Forest Hills, NY is a good but not spectacular restaurant. For the causal customer who enjoys Mexican food, you will enjoy eating at Sergent Garcia but for Mexican food lovers, Sergeant Garcia is really nothing special.

Sergeant Garcia is a Mexican restaurant and the people who work and run the restaurant love to dress up and display their Hispanic heritage and pride. Sergeant Garcia aims to do exactly that although it falls short of that goal. The interior of Sergeant Garcia restaurant is decorated with Mexican cultural items and paintings which give the feel of Mexico and Spain.

However, the food is definitely lacking. As a food connoisseur, I like being blown away by a great restaurant and Sergeant Garcia just doesn't fit into that category. The food comes out very slowly, even for a simply burger. Moreover, although the prices aren't expensive, they aren't cheap either. Food prices are a bit on the high end and aren't deserving of the price you pay for the food.

Location: Sergeant Garcia is located in a horrible located; on the second floor of a row of shops and stores. You could pass by the store several times without noticing it. In fact, you need to look up toward the top of the stores in order to see the restaurant because the restaurant sign is very small. Parking is also impossible and since Sergeant Garcia doesn't have their own parking lot, you will probably need to park your car several blocks away and wait a long time for a parking spot.

Sergeant Garcia does offer some unique Mexican food dishes. Many dishes they serve are Americanized but there are some unique dishes such as their bean platters and their chicken with rice platters containing various spices and flavors. They also have a nice selection of hamburgers and veggie burgers for any vegetarian. Speaking of non-meat dishes, there aren't many dishes that don't contain meat so if you are vegetarian you might want to skip this restaurant.

When you are seated, a complementary appetizer of hard tortilla shell chips is served to you along with a somewhat spicy salsa dip. You get plenty of refills on the tortilla shells to keep you busy until your main course food comes out. You can also add nacho chips to almost any meal for only a dollar or two. Their specialty is Nacho chips or fries in a cheesy flavored sauce that is quite good.
