Review - Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer

Primers are great tools for keeping your makeup looking fresh and vibrant. Eyeshadow primers are something that I do not and cannot live without. By using a lid primer, I am ensured that my eyeshadow looks freshly applied and color true all day long. Eyelid primers are also great for people on the go who do not have time to retouch their makeup throughout the day because with a lid primer you will not have to touch anything up. Smashbox is a well known high end brand of cosmetics famous for their foundation primers--if you haven't heard or tried these foundation primers they are wonderful. Smashbox used to have a lip and lid primer but just took that off the market and replaced it with a more creamy version called Photo Finish lid primer--it is amazing. I prefer to use shadow primers that are less fluid and more creamy in texture and the Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer is exactly that. It is packaged well, has a great texture, boasts amazing performance, and is available through many sources.

Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer comes in a tube that resembles that of a lip gloss. It has a doe foot applicator that makes priming on the go much easier for people with busy lifestyles. What's great about this product is that it travels well in it's tube that holds .08 ounces of product so you can rest assured that air travel will allow this as a carry on. The doe foot applicator is great because it holds just the perfect amount of product for application to both eyelids. It is also a more anti-bacterial way to package a product like this because with the doe foot you never have to contaminate the product by sticking your fingers into the tube or rubbing the product on directly on your eye--you can sanitize that applicator and use it on multiple clients if you're a makeup artist.

The texture of Smashbox's Photo Finish Lid Primer is just my cup of tea. I find that some other eyeshadow primers are a little too fluid for my taste, I prefer ones that are a bit thicker and creamier in texture (almost reminiscent to that of a concealer). This lid primer is a great texture and goes on smoothly and effortlessly. It comes in a universal shade that disappears into any skin tone so it works great on everyone. Just a small dab on each eyelid and you're good to go.

The performance is probably the most important factor in determining whether or not I like a product. Smashbox has never done me wrong with their other amazing products so I was not surprised when their Photo Finish Lid Primer performed greatly. I never had to retouch my eye makeup while wearing it--and I go for twelve hour days when I wear my makeup. Some lesser known brands that offer eyeshadow primers often fall short of a long days wear but Smashbox's Lid Primer stayed put and kept my eyeshadow looking freshly applied and color true all day long until I had to wash off my makeup.
