We normally add extra cheese when we are cooking macaroni and cheese even if we have Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. That is why I decided to try So-Cheezy Macaroni and Cheese Dinner. It comes with a real cheese sauce packet instead of powdered cheese. I prefer this because the cheese is more real instead of just a flavoring.
The dinner was easy to make. Simply boil the water, cook the macaroni, drain and add the cheese sauce packet. The instructions said not to rinse the noodles after draining, but I felt that I should because the water was thick with starch. I was amazed at how thick the starch was- I had never seen it cook up that way before. There is no way that I would have skipped rinsing the cooked macaroni noodles.
The So-Cheezy Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese Dinner looked delicious when it was finished and sitting on my plate. The noodles had cooked up to a nice size and the cheese looked so thick and creamy. I was also very happy with the amount of macaroni and cheese that one package made.
However I wasn't thrilled when I ate it. The cheese looked thick, but actually didn't taste that cheesy. The rest of the family never commented one way or the other whether they liked it. I figured that since there was no complaints that I would save it. I hate wasting food and it is simple to warm up macaroni and cheese dinners. When it was warmed up though, the cheese taste became basically nonexistent and had to be thrown out.
I would recommend So-Cheezy Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese Dinner to those on a tight budget and to those that doesn't have a passion for macaroni and cheese. However, I definitely would not recommend this for a special dinner or for the main course. This product just doesn't compare to the other national name brands like Velveeta or Kraft.
I paid about a dollar and a half for a fourteen ounce box at Save-A-Lot. I probably will not buy So-Cheezy Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese Dinner ever again unless it is a dinner emergency. I would prefer to cook a box of macaroni noodles and add my own Velveeta cheese instead of buying this product.
